Spoiling my puppy

Moses, being a poodle, loves water. and playing in it. So this weekend dh and I bought him a small wading pool for the yard. It's about 4' across, maybe 8" deep, and looks like a huge yellow flower. LOL

We filled it and let the sun warm the water for him, then introduced him to it on Saturday. He drinks out of it frequently, and likes to stand in it and cool his toes.
I kinda wondered how dh would react when I suggested the idea, but he was cool with it thank goodness. I never planned on buying a kiddie pool at this age, but oh well. LOL

Its so much fun to spoil the fur kids! My girls have a kiddie pool too, they love it. :)

We haven't had a kiddie pool in a long time. My babies aren't outside that often, but maybe after we get the fence up. Now Penny our Golden loves the water, but we take her down to the creek and then hose her off when we get home. She loves to be able to swim.

Aww, that's such a good idea! I bet he just loves it!! What a lucky puppy you have!

Baby pools are so great for the pups in the summer heat! We did that last summer, and it was a big hit. They surely won't run out of drinking water with a dish that large!

I bet that Moses will really enjoy it when it's so hot this summer!!! I didn't realize that poodles were water dogs. I knew that labs were though. Mollee, our airdale, gets in the pond to cool off. She just goes out there and stands!

Poodles were originally gun dogs and may be seen occasionally in that role. The show clips evolved from working clips which were originally to provide warmth for major joints during duck hunts in cold water. The rest of the body is shaved for less drag in the water.
So what's seen as "poofy and showy" is actually very utilitarian. I've started to think Poodles are one of the best kept secrest in the dog world. There are so many things about them that I didn't know or misunderstood about the breed prior to having one.

I never knew that about poodles. My husband is a duck hunter. Do you suppose I could talk him into getting a poodle instead of a lab for a hunting dog?..........Naa!!!

Yeah, that'll happen!!

ROFL Diana, can you imagine most American mens faces if asked to take a poodle hunting instead of a lab? My dh really likes Moses, but he's asked me NOT to ever get him the standard poodle clip because it just looks so ridiculous to him. LOL

Passionfruition 05-31-2007 10:12 AM

Aww. You should take some pictures for us!

Can't you see the front of the duck hunting magazines with a picture of a hunter with his trusty poodle holding a duck in it's mouth? LOL

Poodles are great dogs. I had a Toy Poodle once. He was very smart. I always had him groomed and he would come home and hide for a little while. You never EVER wanted to laugh at him, cause you could tell it hurt his feelings.

DianaB 06-04-2007 06:51 AM

Honestly, I'm not trying to make fun of them. I just don't picture them being a gun dog like they have in the hunting magazines. My husband wasn't too excited about it when I suggested that instead of a lab he should try a poodle!!! Go figure!!!

I totally understand Diana. My dh thinks of poodles as Ladies dogs... all froofroo and such.
