This lovely white peony with deep pink trim decided to open up for me this weekend. I love peonies, and even carried them in my wedding bouquet.

That is really pretty. We use to have a row of them many years ago in our yard. For some reason they were always full of ants that eventually made their way into our house. Needless to say, my husband mowed them down. That was probably 20 years or more ago.

I love peonies. Before we moved here I had a light pink one in my yard. They do draw ants though. That's a really pretty bloom, Tink.

From what I've been told, peonies need ants to help them open up.
I have mine a good distance from the house for that very reason.
Marigolds on the other hand, will drive ants away, so are great to put around your house.

The ant thing got me wondering so I did some research.
Ants aren't necessary to the opening of blossoms, but are attracted tot he freshly opened one. Supposedly within a few days when the scent diminishes, the ants pay them less attention too.

I adore peonies too!!!! How beautiful. I can't wait to have a garden one day.

Thanks for sharing yours with us! Amazing how flowers can cheer us up, huh?

What a beautiful flower. I don't think those grow here. I've heard of them, but don't think I've ever seen one.

Marilyn, I have some family in Texas and they don't have any around them either.
