I hate Computers!!!!!!!

I have had it with network problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had cable internet with a D-Link router, and all was well with the world until I found out that our wireless computers could not print to the network printer, so I started trying to get them to. No problems with the hardwired ones.

While working on this, our cable started acting up. Would have to reboot the modem to get online all the time. Then we suddenly couldn't print from the other desktop that is hardwired on the network.

So, I switched from cable to DSL to solve the cable modem problems. It's less expensive, but faster and had been wanting to do it anyway. The the phones quit working. Found out one of the DSL filters is messed up. We also have lots of modem sounds and static on the phones when they are working even with the filters. I'm told now to buy new filters and see if that helps.

All computers on the network can now get online via the router and DSL, but we can't print from any other computer except the one hosting the printer.

My D-Link is old and there are much nicer ones out now, so I bought a Linksys thinking perhaps this will solve the problems with the printer.

Nope, the Linksys is working well and is very fast. Our internet is now fantastic on all machines!! But we still cannot print.

The computers on the network can see each other, but cannot find a printer on the host computer. The printer is shared and all settings seem to be correct, but I'm getting tired of staying up late trying to resolve the problems and am pulling all my hair out.

Suggestions????? Some of you are pretty amazing!!

I wish that I could help you but I know nothing about the wiring on these things!! Sorry:o

We have DSL and our Linksy router, but I didn't know I could set it up on a 'network.' My computer is hooked up to the DSL and router and I have a printer. The boys each have their laptop, but they share a printer..using a USB thingy.

That's all I know. It would be cool to print from each computer to just one printer...I like their's better than mine.

I don't have dsl - I use optimum online for phone, cable tv and my computer. I do have a lynksys and bought a cheap printer/scanner/copy machine which I hook up to with a USB cable whenever I want to print. I use a laptop and don't print much though.

Your situation sounds much more complicated. Is it a wireless printer?

The printer is hard wired (USB cable) to the main desktop on the network. I've given up for now. I may check to see if there is some type of USB splitter or something that I can use to just hook both computers directly to the one printer and forget about using the printer on the network. The frustrating thing is it used to work the way I want it to now, and I can't figure out what happened.

There are splitters, but it is so annoying when something like this happens!

Wow, Judy, this looks like a great site. I will have to register and post my problem and see what happens. I've also wanted to try setting up our LCD HDTV as a computer monitor to view pictures and see how they look. I think this site can help me determine if this is possible, and if so how to do that as well.

Thank you so much for the link!!!!

I'm so glad you found the site helpful. They answered a question I had about my broken USB port hub.
