Hearing the babies heartbeat

Katie went to her OB today for an exam and everything checked out fine. She got to hear the babies heartbeat for the first time. It's 150, so she's now hoping the old wives tale is true and the rapid beat means it's a girl! On the 21st she goes in for an ultrasound, so will hopefully find out the babies gender then.

Aw this is such an exciting time for her. Since she's wanting a girl, I'll keep my fingers crossed for her.

I think the baby's heartbeat is the first time that you really really gasp that the baby growing inside you is a living little boy or girl. I loved hearing my kids' heartbeats. Just in case she doesn't know, most doctors offices or hospitals will tape the baby's heartbeat and the ultrasound for you so you can have it for years to come. Most do it for free, if you bring the tape or DvD. If she hasn't already been told, she can call the office or hospital doing the ultrasound to get all the info on what type of recordings they do (VHS, DVD ect..) and find out if they have a charge.

That is so exciting!!!! The ultrasounds are even neater!! I got to be with my daughter-in-law when she found out that she was having twins!!! We all just walked around in a daze afterwards!! It was soooo cool getting to actually see them!

Oh Diana, that WOULD be exciting!
Katie surprised herself today by getting choked up when she heard the heartbeat. She said it hadn't occurred to her how much it would impact her until she actually heard it. She's really excited about the baby and is beginning to rush tot he baby departments and OOOH and AHhhh over all the cute things now when she goes shopping. lol

Oh Tink, that is so awesome! It's great that she really felt a strong reaction. I bet she'll never forget the experience! I just cried thinking of how wonderful that is for her and your family.

Awww thats so exciting, it's special to hear a baby's heartbeat, enjoy!!

Janet 02-09-2008 02:01 PM

Tink, I do hope you will keep us informed with each step. Has she thought about standing the same way, in the same spot of the room and taking her picture so she can see month to month how the baby (and your daughter) are growing? That would be so cool.

Tink,

How sweet for all of you! I do hope you get those tapes. Of course, all sonograms are to be posted! Any pregnancy pictures yet?

I hope she's feeling great. This is such an exciting time. I still go through the baby department and ooh and aah at some of the tiny clothes, so I surely don't blame Katie!
