Question about frozen chicken
Hey guys, my mom is at work so I can't get ahold of her. You're all the next best thing ;) So all my makeshift moms... I decided for supper tonight I was going to take something from our freezer because it's OVERFLOWING. I have a package of two small whole chickens, and I was going to make one for supper and just wrap up the other and put it back. The problem is they are frozen together and I can't get them apart! I put a butter knife under steaming hot water and tried to pry them apart that way and they still won't unstick.
Sooo if I leave them both out until they thaw enough to pull apart (not totally thawed) can I still put one back in the freezer? Or will I have to make them both? I know I shouldn't freeze and thaw and freeze meat again, but would it matter if it's not TOTALLY thawed? And they were fresh when I bought them, and then I froze them, if that makes a difference. |
I would cook them both, I never refreeze meat once it is thawed out. I learned this as a young bride.. for I didn't know and I would refreeze until an older woman advised me.. So cook it to be safe....
Another tip I was taught was that you should defrost meat always in the bottom shelf of refrid. never out , but I must admit I leave out on counter when its the winter to defrost. |
Darn... thanks for the advice though. I can't eat two chickens by myself before they go bad lol. My roommates never eat my food even when I tell them to.

Lindsey, you can fix the chicken and then refreeze it. I take it off the bone for for use in other things. I freeze it all off the bone for quick sandwiches too.

Thanks Janet! It looks like everyone I know has other plans for supper tonight, so it's just me and my chickens. And I have a tiny roaster and only one chicken will fit in it :( I might put one in the fridge and make it tomorrow, unless I can somehow squeeze both in
