Been in hospital
Remember the stomach virus I had a couple of weeks ago? I've just spent the last 8 days in the hospital because it traveled to my heart lining. I passed out last Friday night and was taken by rescue to the local hospital, then transferred to another nearby hospital that specializes in heart issues.
My blood pressure was 193/121 when I went in, and my heart rate was over 130. I don't remember passing out or going to the first hospital. The fluttery feeling and pain I was getting in my chest for the first couple of days afterwards, scared me more then anything else in my life. I really thought I was dying, which certainly didn't help the blood pressure. I've been sent home on lisinopril for my BP, metroprolol for my heartrate and a few different medications for some stomach issues I continue to have. I'm still pretty frightened, even with these meds, my bp and heart rate are up and down. The doctor in the hospital has basically told me to lose the extra weight now or die. Also feeling a little depressed, but I'm hoping that eases as I start to feel better. Hope to be on here more in the coming days, I've really missed chatting with all of you. |

Thank goodness you're home. That sounds really scary. You are in my prayers and I hope you recover quickly, and that the medication works with no problems. Please keep us posted! Love and hugs, Judy |
I am so sorry, hope you get all better soon. That had to be scary.

Dobie, when I read the headline "Been In Hospital" my heartrate went up too!!! You must have been scared out of your mind girl. You're taking it easy right now right? Are you working? Can you take time off...do you need to?
I didn't think you were overweight. The pictures I've seen of you were lovely and trim. Please keep us updated...I knew you were not here much, but we've all been kind of scarce lately. I'll keep you in my prayers Dobie for a quick recovery. |
I'm so sorry to hear that you've been in the hospital and had heart issues. That's nothing to play around with - please do exactly what the docs tell you to do. It is extremely important to keep your blood pressure down. Do you have an automatic cuff to take it at home? If not, send hubby to Walgreens/CVS or Walmart, etc. to buy an automatic one that you just wrap around your arm and push a button and your pulse and blood pressure will automatically read out. It would be good to take it a couple times a day to see how it is running.
Take care of yourself!!!!! Please let us know how you are doing. |
Oh, Dobie, so sorry you are going through this!!! I'd heard tha infections could go to your heart and be very serious, didn't know a stomach virus could do that, too. So hope you make a complete recovery very, very soon. Gayle has some good advice about taking your blood pressure. You can't be too careful, and we've learned you have to take care of yourself. The doctors are only there to help.
Just to let you know since you've been gone. I'm doing Weight Watchers and it's working for me so far. If you decide to join, we could encourage each other. Just a thought.... Take care of yourself!!! |
Dobie.. So sorry to hear that you were in hospital.. Like Janet mention most of us have not been on much lately. I am glad that you are home now, and do as the drs. tell you. I will keep you in my prayers for a fast recovery..

Dobie, I'm so sorry to hear that you've been in the hospital. It sounds very serious so make sure to take care of yourself and follow doctor's orders. I had noticed that you hadn't been on lately but thought that you were just busy. Take care of yourself!!!! Keep us posted on how things are going.

Dobie,
My prayers are with you also. Think happy thoughts. I know that sounds silly but it sure does help me...........Get Well Soon.:getwell: |
Thanks everyone for the warm thoughts. I've purchased the blood pressure machine - it's hovering around 145/95 - still high, but much better then it was.
I've joined the local gym. Actually, our town is so small that it doesn't have a real gym, but one of the local motels has memberships to use their pool and exercise room - I'm hoping to be able to lower the BP with some weight loss and exercise. I'm not going to start to go until after my next PCP app't and she tells me what I can do. |
Sounds like your on the right track. Good luck at your next appointment.
God Bless. |
When do you see your PCP? I don't like the blood pressure at 145/95! I know that you know it is too high, but I hope you see your PCP soon, so that he/she can adjust your meds.
Keep a record for him/her and take it with you on your next visit. |

About an hour after my last post, my blood pressure went really high again and I got really dizzy. I called my PCP to see if I could come in early, she wanted me to go to the ER by ambulance. One of the woman that I've gotten to be friends with at work traveled with me until Jim could get there.
I was there for about 4 hours, they gave me something by IV, increased my Lisinopril, and I'm on a heart monitor for the next 24 hours - I go back tomorrow to have it taken off. I'm really scared guys, I feel like I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing, but the blood pressure keeps creeping up. At least work is being very good about it. I had only been back for a day when this happened and when I told my boss that I'd be out for a couple of more, she said that they wanted me well and not to push it - I had been afraid that since I have only been there a couple of months that my job might be in jeopardy. At least I don't have to worry about that. I really believe in the power of prayer, and I'd appreciate you keeping me in yours while the doctors try to get me healthy again. |
