back to carpal tunnel

I am falling apart too. Can hardly type, have an appt. with the Orthopedic Surgeon on Mon.
After surgery, wonder how long it will be before I can type? Hope not long, with have withdrawals to go along with it.

If you are having carpal tunnel surgery, please do research and make sure you are getting the best treatment. I am supposed to have the surgery but have been putting it off, and doing extensive research.

There are orthoscopic methods that make one or two very small incisions and the healing time is greatly reduced. Also, if the method is used that utilizes a larger incision, I've heard that some people have trouble with healing of the incision area.

If I do have it, I'm planning to going to a hand clinic that specializes in carpal tunnel and other hand surgeries. Let the experts do it rather than someone locally who does it once in a while.

Hope this helps you some. You may already be going to the best doctor in your area, but wanted to mention the above, just in case.

Wishing you much success and a very speedy recovery!!!!

Donna, when I use to work at Frito Lay, at one time I worked as a packer. Most all the packers it seemed had carpal tunnel and had surgery to make it better. There is a band that goes around the wrist and it is cut. They only had a tiny incision and were back to packing in no time.

I'm sorry that this is still a problem for you. Maybe your husband will be kind enough to use your mouse as you direct him to go to other pages on 4WT!!!! Well, it's a thought!!!!! I'm sure that you'll be good as new after going though everything........and we'll still be here waiting on you!!!

I've never had carpal tunnel, but my sister did and had the surgery which was not successful - but she had another surgery and it is better now.

As with any surgery, just do your research and ask your Dr. lots of questions about the risks and if he's ever had anyone with problems afterwards. Gayle's right, some of the surgeries turn out just wonderful with no problems whatsoever, but then there are others that didn't turn out quite as good.

Donna, you'll have to call one of us and report in when you can't type. If you're like me, you're just hoping to get it over with.

You'd think after 40 years of typing I'd be having troubles (knock on wood), but I'm OK.

donna1990 11-08-2008 07:14 AM

I will do that.
I also have been typing for 40 years.
Yes, can't wait to get it over with.

It is my left hand, he wouldn't be kind enough to do it anyway. I have to get my friends to take me when I need surgery.
But thank God I have them.

I hope the surgery works and that the healing goes easily.

donna1990 11-10-2008 11:14 AM

Well it is not carpal tunnel, it is nerve intrapment in the elbow or neck.
It will be 3 weeks before I get the tests back from and MRI and nerve conductive study.
Have to sleep in a neck collar and my arm wrapped and taped in a towel so that it stay straight. Real sexy.

Donna i was just going to tell you some of the carpal tunnel surgeries don't work, i have friends that had to go back a second time for surgery, that's a hard one there, other people didn't have a problem, probabaly like most surgeries there's that risk you take... good luck hope everything turns out ok.... we'll be praying for you...

donna1990 11-10-2008 11:37 AM
