Life
School starts back in a week...but it will be completely different for me this semester. Instead of classes, I will be working from 8-4:30 every day (except Fridays when I'll work 8-12 and go to class from 1-4). No more laid back college schedule. lol I'll definitely miss it, but I'm looking forward to the field experience. I met my field supervisor and she is super sweet. I think I'll learn a lot by working with her. My first day is this coming Wednesday.
What's going on in your life? Anything new or exciting? |
Hi Angie,
I'm a college professor and I start back to classes week after next. We have a workshop and meetings next week. I think I am ready for classes the week after (I hope) :) I have enjoyed my holiday break, but I am always ready to go back. I love teaching!!! :) |
I have decided that it's time to start a life up here. I need to meet new friends, and to find things to do that I like.
My daughter is also into this, and we're going to go to an open mike place near her house on Friday nights. There is also a Saturday afternoon artists forum in my town, beginning next week, which I'm going to attend. Jessie would like to sing there, maybe with Mackenzie. Jess has a voice like an angel, and Mackenzie is very good too. Then, last night I found an ad in the local paper for a Catskill Womens' Network! It always works that way. When the student is ready to learn, the teacher will appear. I called and spoke to a nice woman. They get together once a month, go to restaurants, etc. They're mostly city women who have moved up here. Now - to start yoga, go to meditation and look for pottery. And....I'm going to meet that wonderful man this year. |
I'm helping Dae Lynn and Damon out financially by watching Karlie while they work. She's an adorable child but is still a handful. Once again this morning she told me that "she appreciated me"!!! So cute!
That's the biggest change in my life right now. That and with it being so cold I'm hardly going out. Glen's even been going to the grocery store for me. I just don't like getting out in the cold!!!! |
Gayle, I hope you have a great semester! Your students are lucky to have such a sweet and kind professor. :)
Judy, sounds like you are busy! I'm so happy that you are finding so many fun things to do. Diana, Karlie sounds like a cutie! I bet she's keeping you busy. :) As for the cold weather, I hate it too. Is it spring yet? lol I had my first orientation today and I have another tomorrow. I officially start on Tuesday and I'm INCREDIBLY nervous. There are so many things I have to do...it's just really overwhelming. My classmates all feel overwhelmed too so at least I'm not alone... |
The biggest changes we are going through are due to the economy. When the going gets tough, the tough get going sorta thing. We were just awarded a contract with Valero, so now I get to know a whole new group of people. :)
At home, hubby and I are trying to get organized. He's finally on board with working together to go through all our stuff and tossing what we need to, having a garage sale this summer, building more storage in the garage. We've made a list of what needs to be done, and we are on the attack. We've already found some things that were lost. I have so many rolls of scotch tape now that they are all in one place. Working as we do and moving as many times as we have during our marriage, things have gotten misplaced and we never had time to really organize like we should. Oh, on the surface all looks well, but the attic, garage, cabinets, closets hold all sorts of treasure, or junk. Hopefully we will find out!!:D |

I need to get organized too. That's great that your husband is going to help you with it, Marilyn. When Glen helps with stuff like that he ends up pushing me out of the way and just doing things the way he wants to. I end up fustrated at him!!!!
I used to follow FlyLady's house cleaning rules and she has a way of tackling messy places that I like. You go in to, say, your closet and throw out 21 items. Tomorrow you go back and toss another 21 items and do this as often as you need to. Then work 5 or 10 minutes at a time until it's clean and organzied. |

Sounds like we're all to some extent in the same boat.
Janet, only thing is I'm not off work enough to do this every spring, so we have to whittle away at it on the weekends and just commit to making forward progress over the next few months. Diana, my hubby gets into my boxes before I'm even in the room, and starts tossing things. The only thing he does understand and let me do is rummage through his discard pile and pull out things I just can't part with. He accuses me of being a packrat, but you should see his stuff, he keeps things that I would toss, too. Gina, we've been living here almost 6 years, and last weekend when the big shelves fell and we had to go through a bunch of stuff, there were still 3 moving boxes in the garage unopened from our last move. You'd think the stuff could all be chunked, but we found pictures of our girls when they were little, and other special things. Organization experts will say that if you don't touch it in a year, you don't need it. That's crazy, there are lots of things you don't touch in a year, and do we really need our children's baby pictures and other special things, not to survive, maybe, but, yes we do need them!!! |
I feel that way too Marilyn, about the baby pictures. They mean more to me than any object in the house.

It is a lot of work, but decluttering can change your life a bit. I think when you have things under control at home and not cluttered, the rest of your environments start to become less cluttered.
