Have I mentioned that I HATE cell phones?
I get so tired of what seems like every conversation with my husband being interrupted by his cell phone. No matter how important our conversation is he answers his phone. That sends a message to me that who ever is on the other end of the call is more important than me. I have complained and complained but it just doesn't get any better.
Then Jaci has her phone in her hand or nearby constantly. She and Nate text each other all the time. It sits on the table beside her when we eat. It goes with us out of town. She had a slumber party the other night with a couple of girls and, you guessed it, her phone was in her hand and she was texting the whole time. Again, it gets really tiring to be in competition with who ever is on the other end of the phone. I'm very, very fustrated over it, enough that I'm in a really grumpy mood. I thought about going to my Aunt Marva's house for the weekend to get away but........you guessed it, her phone rings all the time too. I have dreams in my head of driving down a highway and rolling down the window and pitching Glen and Jaci's phones!!!! So......Have I mentioned that I HATE cell phones? |
I completely understand and much of the time, I feel the same way. However, I try not to answer my phone if I am talking with someone or otherwise engaged. I carry my cellphone everywhere I go - everywhere! I started when Gary got sick 5 years ago. I had to be accessible to him, since he was home and I was at work. I always answer a call from him, no matter what I am doing. I do not always answer everyone else.
But I hear your pain, my granddaughter is the same way, phone in hand all the time. Over spring break she told me she has sent/received 2000 text messages - I nearly died! I guess I have a love/hate relationship with my phone - I love it because Gary can always contact me - I hate it because everyone else can always contact me. :D |
I understand completely Diana. Seems like Ricky is always texting too. I love my phone, would probably love it more if I had all the bells and whistles...you know...the internet stuff, but we don't. No need really, but it would be nice at times.
I don't answer if I'm with someone unless it's really important. Maybe it's time for another talk with Glenn and Jaci. |
I had a talk with Jaci and that's why I'm not happy. I've tried and tried and they just don't get how much it bothers me.
Gayle, I can totally understand why you need a phone to keep in contact with Gary. With his health the way it is you have to be available to him when he calls. I wish that someone would come up with some cell phone etiquette rules!!!! And then SMACK Glen and Jaci up side the head with them!!!! LOL (Jaci has sent/received 10,000 to 12,000 messages in a month!! That comes to a message sent or received every 2-3 minutes 24 hours a day!!) |
Remember those big Bag Phones we had when they first came out? I remember carrying one of those huge heavy things around in a shopping bag because I didn't want anybody to think I HAD to have a phone with me:eek: But the truth was that I needed to be in touch with Mike at all times because of his health.
I wonder what our kids/grandkids would think of those monstrosities?? And they didn't even TEXT, lol  |
My blackberry is on the blink, so I'm missing it alot right now. I feel your pain, and I practice good cell phone etiquette, even when driving, but I do miss my connection right now.
|
I always miss it too, even if I've just forgotten it at home. How did we get so dependant on them? I get very upset when I'm in line at a checkout and someone is on their phone. So darn rude to the cashier in myy opinion. I won't talk on the phone in town ...to much to keep an eye out for...people, animals, cars, stoplights/signs, children. But I will talk on the highway or county roads. Much less to distract from.. Our town isn't very big...I don't know how people pay attention in the bigger cities.

Diana, I feel your pain. Both my girls and son-in-law are constantly texting. One of our daughters has a phone that allows her to talk to me on the cell phone while she is texting someone else, so I hear this tap tap while we are talking. It makes you feel really unimportant that she can text while we are talking. Our son-in-law gets texts from his parents all the time while he is here visiting with us. Makes you feel like he'd rather be spending the time with them.
Hubby and I will be talking about something important, and he has to cut me off because of another incoming call. It's very frustrating, but I don't know what I'd do without my cell!! It's how I stay connected with those who I love. It is frustrating. |
"Unimportant" is exactly how I feel. You certainly have the same complaints that I have, Marilyn.

i just hate people talking/texting on them when there driving.....should be out-lawed!!!

I thought that Kansas could write a ticket for driving and talking on your cell but I'm not sure on that. Here's a chart that tells about laws in other states. It's pretty interesting.

We were drove off a ramp last year cause a person was talking on the cell phone and blew thru the stop sign and didn't even see us until Mike drove the bike right up along side her and flipped her the finger. oh Mike.. But i thought he was going to kill her... i was shaking about time i got off the bike.. not an enjoyable ride that day... His lovely biker friends told him to carry and metal ball next time that happens.. i didn't even ask, but he has one in his pocket now... I guess they pass the car and throw it up in the air and it will crash back on the car.. but i hope he never does that he should just report something like that if it happens again... He's a father now, not a rebel biker!!! |
Cell phones annoy me too, although I feel pretty naked when I accidently leave mine at home! I had a talk with Scott about his one day while we were visiting my grandma, and he was taking calls and making calls to his friends while we were sitting there visiting. After a couple of looks he apologized and stopped but later I told him that it was rude, because my grandma and I couldn't even carry on a conversation while he was talking. Anyways, I took him home this past weekend and he barely used his phone at all :) But I guess his family is completely different and call and text each other constantly.
I get and send a few texts a day but nothing too crazy! |
One year at Christmas at my mother's, my niece and nephew were on their phones continually, either calling or receiving calls. It was so rude and I finally said something. My younger brother said they have a lot of friends and I told him then that they should leave and spend Christmas with their friends if we weren't important enough for them to talk to. They are just like their rude mother and we all can't stand her.

oh Janet i love you LOL, your just like my mother!!!
Here's another story about cell phones, we all eat Sunday dinner over my mothers and NO CELL phones are allowed at the table!!! Golden rule in my mothers house, i love it, we all talk and laugh and have a good time, that's the way it should be when family is together!!! |
