Homeless...

http://whrrl.com/story/show/2207

This is a link to a story through pictures. My son Dustin lives in Seattle and this is what he does... He is the one in plaid shorts with "love" tattooed on the side of his head (I know..) He is a preacher to homeless folks, and co- founder of one4one ministry. He spends his days and nights helping people get clothes, food, shelter, id's, jobs, medical attention (his wife is an RN)...but most of all, loving the people that are the most unloved by our society.

God has equipped Dustin to minister to his generation. He certainly didn't "fit in" here in the bible belt of east Texas..but he has truly found his niche.

I'm so very proud of my son. Thanks for looking:)

I'm proud of your son, too! Awesome work.

Wow!! I'm impressed by your son's work!!! He is truly showing God's love to these people. Also, I'm impressed with how these people have sit up their camp. The rules and organization are to be commended!! They are good people in a bad situation.

Fabulous story, Betsi - thanks so much for sharing!!!

Most of them ARE good people! Mayor Nickles says it's illegal for them to have tent cities on public land...making it illegal to be homeless:eek: So churches/people let them stay on private property until the city makes them move again. The last time they bulldozed their tents and belongings. It's just crazy. With the job situation like it is, there are plenty of homeless everywhere.

Betsi....I am at a loss of words....so moving!

Wow, this is very impressive. So sad that the state won't let them stay in one spot. These people need the support of community. Looks like a very good work that your son is doing!!

It IS sad! These pictures have given me a much better view of what Dustin does. I live such a sheltered life:rolleyes:

I think that most of us live a sheltered life. I live in such a small town that if someone were to be homeless then family, neighbors, or someone would open their doors to them.

Our church has a lot of people who come by for benevolence. We've even paid rent and utilities for some. There are advantages to living in a small town.

Blueyes 06-18-2009 12:35 PM

That's the way my town is...exactly!

gja1000 06-18-2009 01:52 PM

That's where I grew up! I loved my little town - it would be nice to live in a place like that again!
