How much benedryl?

My little doggie girl has the itchies. I don't know how much benedryl to give her...she weighs about 4 1/2 lbs. She's been playing in the back yard with Jack so I guess she got close to something that makes her itch  Anybody know how much?? Thanks!

Not sure Betsi...when it comes to that kind of stuff....I always call my Vet to get the right dosage.

Last summer I gave Reuger 1/4 of a children's chewable benedryl every day for itching. I would wrap it in a bite of cheese. He loved it!!! Reuger is 6 lbs.

We have an awful time with fleas but since I've switched Reuger to Comfortis we don't have nearly as much trouble. I still see fleas on him but the Comfortis takes care of them. He's not suffering with the flea dermatitus any more.

I have the dogs on Comfortis, and it works great! We haven't had a problem with fleas in a long time. Something is just making her itch, so I want to give her some relief:) Thanks ladies!

My Zoe is 3.6 lbs, and she gets 0.3 cc's (right at 1/3 of a cc) of the liquid children's benedryl twice a day for her allergies. Chase is 8 to 9 lbs, and he gets 1/2 of an adult tablet of benedryl. I have given Zoe a quarter of an adult pill when we didn't have the liquid available. I make sure it's actually just a little smaller than 1/4. Hope this helps.

To measure 0.3 cc's you need a very small syringe. The infant benedryl may have a dropper in it that will measure this small, I really don't know, but worth checking.

At Wal-mart you can but a spray to help them when they're itching. It's like a Benedryl spray and it doesn't cost much. I spray it on Rueger's underside when the chiggers are getting him. It helps for awhile. It's in the dog section.

Also, try an oatmeal bath. I don't really know if you can use real oatmeal:confused:
Aveeno is all I know about.

Thanks everybody! I did give her some benedryl, and I think I'll go get some oatmeal shampoo. She is doing quite a bit better:)

I'm glad to hear that she's better.
