Finds in the cabin!
I forgot to tell you guys about some of the cool stuff I found in our cabin last week! As most of you know, it's an old farmhouse we moved out and it was built in the 20's. The first day out there, I went upstairs where there were stacks of old books and papers that were left behind. Most of them were novels... an old copy of Treasure Island, some western novels, some school readers... And then I found a very old "Modern Geography of Canada" book. I looked inside and WOW... Canada then looked nothing like Canada now! I took it down to show my mom and grandma and we looked all over for a publishing date. Finally we found it - 1899!
Besides that we found a lot of university transcripts, old magazines, and some children's games! I guess there was also a Ouji board in there, and the woman we got the house from is very superstitious and HATED that Ouji board, so my parents took it out of the cabin and are going to sneak out to their farm and leave it on her front porch for a scare LOL :D Anyways, here's pretty much what that map looked like! http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/c...-2101.9-e.html I think BC and the Yukon are the only things that have stayed the same in the last 110 years! Well, and the maritimes, but islands don't change too much! |
WOW! That is sooo cool! I love antiques, and especially old books. Lindsay, some old readers are very very valuable! You might check yours out online. I know Dick and Jane readers brings LOTS of money at auction.

Thanks Gayle! My mom has a few old ones from my great-grandparents as well at home. I used to always take them to school for show-and-tell when I was little and we had "pioneer day" :) We're kind of hoping they don't notice everything left behind and want it all back! After all, they DID go through and take out what they wanted before we moved the house!
|
I wouldn't think they would want anything back that they had left after you took possession. Goodness, the house could have been destroyed in the moving process! I think you are home free with your "finds"!!!

Neat treasures!

Oh, Lindsey, that is sooooo coool. I love old things like that. What treasures!!!
|
Hidden treasures!! Love the excitment to see what's there!
Sounds like you found some neat items!! |
I love finding things like you mentioned. So much fun and so interesting.

After some research last night, I discovered that the map from that geography book was only relevant for SEVEN YEARS! Alberta and Saskatchewan changed to their current boundaries in 1905. I'm sure that book is worth a lot!
