Corner of my back yard
4 Attachment(s)
I've been working all weekend on getting this tiny little corner of the yard fixed up. It's too shady for grass, but these holly ferns and ruellia should grow there (at least I'm crossing my fingers!). Now mind you, it's only about 85 degrees, but the humidity must be 100000% so I've sweat like a hog all morning!!! LOL! Oh the little black fence - I didn't plan on putting that up till two little yorkie boys couldn't keep their wingers off the plants. Yeesh! You'd think I planted new bathrooms just for THEM! Of course they can jump the fence and will likely that occasionally, but at least they won't pee on the EVERY time they go out. You can see the green rain barrel in pic #4, I'll be using rain water for the plants. The plants should love that!

I think it's coming along just fine.
I still have pot and a bag of dirt on my porch, none open. :( |
It's looks really pretty Gayle. Even though my in-laws were in the greenhouse business, I still have no idea about plants and what is good or not good for specific areas..lol. The plants you picked are very pretty.

I had to do mega internet research to figure out what might grow in that shady spot - I had no clue. It has dappled light till about noon, then it is in complete shade. I bet I have looked and read on the internet for several hours over the past month, trying to decide what to get.
I thought I wanted columbine, but then when I went to the nursery (a local nursery that has NEVER steered me wrong), they recommended ruellia and holly fern. I sure hope they live! If not, oh well, I'll just get some rocks and make a rock garden! LOL! I'm going to get a pretty pot and set it on the flat rock you see in the picture. I'll probably plant annuals in the pot - maybe petunias, the nursery said they would bloom in shade - not in winter, of course. LOL! |
Looks so pretty Gayle. A pretty pot with some colorful flowers will just make it look even prettier.:)
|
Love the corner Gayle, and something with just a little color will make it really stand out.
|
I plan to use a colorful pot like this one http://www.directfrommexico.com/ae2037.html I saw one like this about 18 inches tall at Lowes and I think I'll get it. That way, if there is too much shade to get the flowers to bloom, I'll still have some color! And I'll have color in winter too!
|
I have a big pot that looks a lot like that on my front porch. Your little corner of the world looks so neat and pretty! Could you come do mine, lol?

That is going to look really nice! I love the plants and the Mexican pot really brings pizazz (sp?) into it!
|
I'm going to have to get a taller fence, I can't keep the yorkie boyz out of it - they think I have installed 6 new bathrooms for them!
I have to keep washing the pee off the plants - thankfully, I have the rain barrel right there, so I can use rain water to rinse off the pee. |

Looks nice, Gayle!! I like the plants. Will they spread any or will they stay that size? I love the pot too!!
|
The two ferns won't spread, but the others will, if they make it past the yorkie bathroom stage.
