Lasik Eye Surgery

My mom is going to "get" me this for Christmas!!! :D My sister had it done a few months ago and sees 20/20 now. Anyone have this done? Or know someone who has?

Background info: I'm almost 30, and have been wearing glasses since I was about 5 or 6. I wear glasses and contacts now, and am sick and tired of the hassle. :( I just want real vision!!

My 83 year old mother had it done when she had some cataracts removed. She has worn glasses all her life and it is so hard to get use to seeing her without glasses. She still needs glasses once in a while to read.

I've worn glasses since the 5th grade. In high school, I went to contacts, but then had to go back to glasses. I just can't see me lying there awake and being able to see them doing that to my eyes. Scary! I can't afford to have it done either, so I'll probably have glasses the rest of this life. :)

It does seem pretty scary! But my sister said that it doesn't take long. I wonder if they Dr. will allow me to take a Xanax before I go into surgery! LOL :p

A couple of Xanax would be the only way I could do it. I saw how it's done once on the Discovery or Health channel. If they could put me out and I could afford it, you bet I would have it done.

what a great gift!! Glasses and contacts seem like a huge hassle!!!

My daughter-in-law had this done just last week. She's gotten along really good with it. I haven't talked with her to ask how her vision is doing.

My Mom and an aunt had it done about the same time a few years ago. Mom got along fine, but my aunt had a retina detach soon afterwards and now has wavy vision in one eye that can't be corrected. Somehow the surgery made her eye more likely to have this problem.

Hey nicole! my friend Ryan is 24 and just had this surgery and said it was heck at first (like the first six weeks following) but now that he's healed up it's wonderful!!!!

I'm so jealous! Good luck!

I too wore glasses since the 1st grade! Then went to contacts when I got older. I had very BAD eyes and I had it done. It was the BESt thing I've ever done and would do it again in an instant! To be able to look over and just see the alarm clock in the morning or to see what I'm washing in the shower is amazing ! Its been 7 years now since I've had it. I LOVE IT!!!

Good luck and ENJOY !!!!

A couple of my friends had it done and their eyesight is completely perfect now. However, if your eyesight is REALLY bad, lasik will not work for you. I have another friend who got it and her vision is better, but not perfect....she still has to wear glasses. And my husband, his vision is too bad to be corrected with Lasik.

I'd LOVE to have it done! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for ya! Let us know how it goes!

Please keep us posted!
I only have to wear glasses for driving so far, and even that bugs me, so I'd LOVE to correct my vision. I should wear them for reading, but I hate the feel of them on my face, so usually try to get by without. I know, I'm a wuss. LOL

How soon, Nicole, are you going to have it done? I'm assuming after the first of the year since your mom is getting it as a Christmas gift. You will definitely have to tell us everything about the surgery. I know all will go great and can't wait to hear all about it.
