re arranging the house

Do you have a room in your house that you wish you could move to another part of your house?

Mine is the utility room, my washer, dryer and water softner and furnace are in this room. It is also the main entrance we use to enter our house, therefore i feel like i have to keep those things clean, not that i don't have enough to clean, but come on cleaning my washer and dryer and furnace and water softener. The furnace draws dust and if the dogs come in and it is raining/snowing they shake it off there and leave water spots, also after shopping everything gets piled up on the washer till i get it put up and i am always afraid the washer will get scratched up, and the real biggie is when hubby is putting on his shoes to go and he has a cup of coffee he sits it on the washer and leaves a ring of coffee and i hate coffee.

This is also the entrance that most of our company use's and i really hate for them to see it dirty Wish i would have thought of these things before we got our house, wish i could just move it to another section of the house, but not sure where i would want it.

I would like to move our laundry too. It's right where we enter the house from the garage. Our company comes through the front door on the other end of the house, so that's not an issue, but I really wish I had a laundry ROOM! It is convenient where it's at, because if Scott is working in the garage he can just come right in and leave his dirty stuff right there instead of tracking it through the house. But, I think it would be nice to have a bench or something there instead. It's where our coat closet is, and our shoes and everything, so it would be nice to have a place to sit down. I don't know if we'll ever move them though! I like having main floor laundry, because our bedrooms are on the second floor so I only have to go down one flight of stairs. I think I'd hate laundry a little more if it were in the basement, but that's the only place we could move it.

Why not just add a room around it and keep it close. Houses made in the US are so easy to move a wall and add a wall.

I had a room just like yours in the first house Gary and I lived in. It was at the back of the house, but that is where our driveway ended and so everyone came in through the laundry room. I didn't fret too much over it, because it was a temporary rental house, but I do understand what you are talking about.

We come in our current house through the laundry room, but guests come in the front door, unless we bring them through the laundry room LOL! Our laundry room in this house is very tiny though, just a washer on one side and a dryer on the other side with cabinets above both. It is off the kitchen, so you can see into it and I try to keep it tidy. I do have a door I can shut, but I never shut it!

I wish the master bath and master closet were bigger in my new house. They are both long and narrow, so sometimes Gary and I have to squeeze past each other in the bathroom. I like to dress in my closet and because it is long and narrow, it is hard, but I still do it. Otherwise I pretty much like my new house.

In our old house we (and company) came in on our back porch where the washer, dryer, and hot water heater were at......plus shelves for extra canned goods and what ever else didn't go else where in the house. Very seldom was it very clean because it was a catch-all for stuff!! I can understand COMPLETELY how you feel!! Is there any way you could box in your washer and dryer and put bi-fold doors in the front? That would look really nice and keep them behind doors where they couldn't be seen.

When we built our new house we put in a laundry room but it's right by the back door and still always messy!!!! Go figure!!!! It's still a catch-all!!!!!

Diana, I like the idea of the bi-fold doors to hide the washer and dryer, i will have to mention it to hubby. Thanks

Bi-fold doors is what hides our W & D. Works out well, but mine are in my bathroom.

You're welcome. I hope that they work out for you!!!!
