Janet, don't feel dumb, there is so much new technology out there, unless you are making a real effort to keep up, it can be very confusing. To view HD in HD, you have to have a wide screen TV that is setup to receive HD. In February 2009 all stations will be required to broadcast in digital format which means most will be HD. If you don't already have one, your next TV will probably be HD. You can't hardly get TV's that aren't any more. That can be your present next year, hehe. Some guys have boats, some hunt, my hubby is into motorcycles, old cars and TV & movies. So we have a rear projection LCD big screen tv with surround sound. There are so many remotes in our living room that I can't really work them. If I want to watch a DVD, someone has to help me. When I had some friends over to watch a movie with me, my family left detailed instructions and even drew pictures of the remotes I would have to use and which buttons to push to make things work. And I'm an engineer. I'm usually too busy to watch much but I do like Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives. We also have a DVR (digital video recorder) which is setup to record these shows whenever they are on, so if I miss the time to watch them, my oldest daughter will set it up so I can watch when I'm ready. I actually like it this way because we can skip the commercials. This TV stuff is one of the things that makes me feel old. I really need to sit down and learn the remotes.
