I know that my Mom when she used to make meatloaf she mixed Heinz 57 sauce and ketchup (about equal amounts) and put it on top. It was really good and added a different flavor.
I make meatballs more now than I do meatloaf. I use the same recipe for both but mix BBQ sauce and brown sugar and put it on a few minutes before they're done. It's one of my family's favorite recipes. It's not anything fancy, but we love it!
To make meatloaf or meatballs I take----
1 to 1 1/2 lb. of hamburger
1/2 chopped onion (or you can use dried onion)
1 pkg saltine crackers (1/4 of a box)
2 eggs
Just mix this all together and form into meatloaf or meatballs. For the meatloaf add the topping to it when you first put it in the oven not at the end. For the meatballs add the topping about 10 minutes before they're done. Bake at 350* for an hour.
