It's like turning on and off a faucett It probably worked for him as a young boy with his mother and he figures it will work for you too. Keep yourself busy and just don't answer the phone. He sounds like trouble and I sure wouldn't want you stuck in a relationship that is so manipulative. There is definitely something wrong if he is calling you this often
