Hurricane Gustav

I was watching the news/weather this morning and it does not look good at all for the New Orleans area does it. Almost 3 years to the day. The roads were packed with lines of cars making their way north to get out of the path. Said that the evacuation was mandatory, but if you chose to stay, it was at your own risk and not to expect any help. I hope it fizzles out, but the weather guy said they are expecting it to intensify to a category 4.

Please, if any of you are near where any of the hurricanes are headed, please leave and get to a safe place. Once you are safe...if there is a way...let us know you are safe.

I've been listening to NPR - it said that they are now expecting the storm surge to go over the levees. They said they don't know how bad the flooding will be. I think we should all pray that people are able to get out of the way of this storm and that the damage will be minimal.

Everyone in this part of the country is gearing up for the evacuees. This time, I think a lot more people will "get out of the path". I just hope they can get all the hospitals/nursing homes evacuated in a safe manner. In our paper today, they showed a picture of a temporary hospital set up in a convention center in Tyler Texas. It is very difficult to take care of hospital patients, outside a real hospital. It will be a challenge.

I also hope they can help everyone without transportation get out. It was so sickening during Katrina to learn that many people without transportation were simply unable to find a way out.

Yes, if the current path holds, New Orleans won't take a direct hit, but may get a larger storm surge that if they did get hit directly. I do think the water will go over the levees. I just hope that everyone gets out NOW.

My husband has a fishing house on the Texas coast - about 150 miles west of the TX/LA border. It is built on stilts, so it will be fine, even with a big storm surge - which they shouldn't get if the current path holds. They may get lots of rain, but that will be OK.

Looks like we'll be OK here and probably not even get rain. My Sister and Brother are in the direct path (Pitkin, LA). My brother's going North, but my Sis can't make up her mind. I'm asking her to go to my son's house (farther North, in Texas), but she's being stubborn. She won't flood, but are ususally without power for a couple weeks.

My prayers are with those who can't or won't get out!

Prayer for all in the line of this storm. It has slowed down to a CAT 3, but things can change. I am going to post this on Prayers.

I'm glad to hear that you guys are going to be safe. Has anyone heard from Marilyn? She lives north of Corpus Christi somewhere. I'll be praying for the people in the storm area.
