Bunions
Judy mentioned on another thread that she had a bunion. I asked her if she had thought about getting it fixed, but she probably hasn't seen my question, so i thought I'd start a new thread.
I have a bunion that doesn't bother me in the least - but I was wondering if I should have it fixed, before it gets bad, or should I just leave well enough alone. My sil had both of hers fixed, but they were bothering her a lot. Anybody have any bunion expertise?

Years ago, I explored having surgery. This was before shoe styles became comfy. I went to several doctors, until the last one told me not to have it done until I absolutely could not find shoes that didn't hurt.
He told me that whenever you mess with bones like that, arthritis is likely to occur, and I could be worse off.

Mom has bunions really bad. Her feet look normal until you get to the toes...well and that ball looking thing by the big toe. Her toes on the right foot go off to the right and the left off to the left direction. She always told us it was because when she was young she wore shoes that were too small. Don't know how much truth there is to that, but that is what she believes caused it. They've not caused her problems that I know of, believe me, she'd complain if there was a problem.

I don't have bunions but my sister-in-law had surgery on her feet several years ago. I know that she had a lot of trouble with hers but I don't know how things are now.

I did look up bunions and read that they can be caused by tight shoes.....they can also be hereditary.

If it doesn't hurt I wouldn't bother with surgery.
