Which would you redo?
If you had an extra $5k laying around, which room would you redo? I'm faced with redoing the kitchen (new appliances, new countertops/sink and repainting/staining the cabinets) or the bathroom (new toilets, new countertops/sink)?
OOOOR, which room would you choose and how would you redo it?

If you don't need any other new furniture, go for the kitchen, after all, YOU have to work in there

We just redid our kitchen a few years back in oak. We also put in all oak woodwork and doors. If I had the extra money, I would move my kitchen to where the living room is and make our family room huge. I would also enclose our front porch so we could sit out there of an evening without the bugs.

I would re-do my kitchen - cabinets are find, just in dire need of new flooring and hardware. So - in doing that, I'd have a little money left over to put towards my bathroom.

Kitchens and bathrooms are your best bet as far as resale value goes, so either one would get you a good return for your money. I'd say go for the kitchen first, though. That's where you spend more time and what more people visiting you would see.
My kitchen was all new when we bought our house 5 years ago (the house was built in '77) so I need to get the bathrooms re-done. It's such a daunting task, I don't even want to think about it. I don't even know where to begin. And here you are plowing ahead after just getting your floors done... My hat's off to you, girlfriend!!! |
