What inspired you?
I've been wrestling with several different ideas for my home, unable to really decide what I wanted to do as far as colors in specific rooms until today.
I was shopping and just browsing the fabrics when I found one that I absolutely had to have for my kitchen/dining area curtains. I bought it, and will be pulling the colors for those 2 areas and my family room from them. The whole area is quite open, so the colors pretty much have to work together even though my family room drapes won't match, but will have to compliment the new curtains. The fabric I fell in love with is a large plaid, so has several colors in it. The background is taupe, with red, white, medium blue and a bit of yellow in it. I plan to make the walls a lighter taupe with browns on the furniture and red pillows, etc for accent. The dining area is at the end of the kitchen with a large bay window, so there is a lot of window area to decorate, making this fabic a major focal point in the design. So where did your design ideas come from?

Most of my ideas come from pictures in magazines and then I try to twist it to more my taste. My problem is we never have the money to really redecorate. He always seems to have money for Scouts, 4-wheelers and toys for him, but never any to keep our home looking nice. It takes me quite a while to save up for new things on my own.

My living room colors come from the pillows that are on my couch. They're kind of fall colors and I've been able to find quite a bit of stuff to match.
When we built the house we went with taupe colors because they're neutral and I can put what ever color I want with it. I sponge painted my dining room walls with 2 colors of taupe (darker and lighter) with a cream white sponged over the top. It's very pretty and now I'm making curtains that are black with roses on it and I'm decorating with antique porcelain dishes that have roses on them. I'm excited that I finally have started on my curtains. My bedroom colors come from my bedspread. The walls are painted sage green and I have pink accents around the room that match the bedspread.

most of my house was inspired by trying to make my hubby feel part of the home & trying to keep me here as well. He hated my black. So we are going with nature which we both love. Expect the kitchen. Since I'm in it more I kept a dark color without it being black. I get alot of ideas from HGTV. Most I can't afford now but they are great thoughts for later.

I was inspired by whatever happened to be given to me. My mom was a huge help and is responsible for almost every piece of furniture we have. Since my hubby and I were so young when we got married, we didn't want to start out on the wrong foot by getting in debt and buying everything that we wanted. If it's really important to us, we will get is someday when we can afford it without debt. That's my philosophy.
Anyway, we've made do with what we have and I think it looks pretty nice. We will add more and more of our own personal touch as our financial situation allows, but I refuse to go into debt just to look pretty. But when we do buy all of our own new stuff, nature will definitely be a big inspiration to me. I love the earthy but sophisticated look.

i was inspired but statues and michelangelo so when i was building our house i saved and saved and saved and so i know how large statues of david and venus and aphrodite which is the same as venus or something like that
didnt study it just liked it and then i did like whitewash or antique looking furniture and entertainment center and then i boughtmyhubs and big screen just for him. my bedroom i wanted a more bed & breakfast feel when we first moved in i did a sexy leopard marilyn monre type them and i really liked it but when i boughtmy new bed i couldnt find any covers to go on it in leopard so i singled out some beachy looking ocean bed & breakfast type thing and went with it but i really need a color to paint it though, i want a light yellow but i dont have any yellow in my bed covers but i think that it may help or it may hurt not to sure yet but my daughter is a twin so she still shares a room with her brother but their big brother did race cars and that was before disney cars came out so now he wants to do his room in cars the movie but im like nah but i am thinking of painting his bed a dark blue color and going with that theme like a boys sports theme or something i dont know though there are so many colors i can paint it i also like orange but not many kids want an orange room so im thinking maybe like a beachy blue. that way i can work with it. but well see ill post pics whenevre i get it done, |
