Memories...
Our local newspaper publishes a section, "100, 75, 50 & 25 Years Ago" with bits of articles that are a blast from the past. My mother's name was in there yesterday.
July 7, 1982: "Mrs. Clara H......, who was admitted to D..... Hospital June 8 for a snake bite, got up from her hospital bed for the first time Monday and is now making progress. Mrs. H...... received the bite on her foot while working in a garden south of .........." Mother was bitten on an ankle by a diamond backed rattler while picking peas. She was about 30 miles from a hospital. She recovered and was fine, but spent quite a while in the hospital and had kidney problems while there. It was very scary for all of us. I had surgery in the same hospital while she was there which at least was convenient for the family. She would get a chuckle about this being in the paper yesterday if she was still alive. Makes me miss her again. Those of you who still have your mothers around, enjoy them while they are with you.

How neat to see that and be reminded Marilyn.
My Dad has been gone since 1991 and used to be a fairly well known local musician. The local TV station still plays some of his programs on occassion. It's bittersweet watching them. It's nice to know he's not forgotten, but makes the missing a bit sharper again. So I understand how you might be feeling. HUGS

Our newspaper has an article like that and sometimes it has names of family members from long ago in it. My husband and I have families that have been in this area for years and years.
I'm sorry that your article was bittersweet. It was nice to be reminded of your mother, but sad at the same time. It's really hard to lose someone close to you. My mother and I aren't close, anyway not like I would like to be. It's rather sad, but that's just the way it is. I used to be really bothered by it but now, I've decided that she's the one missing out.

Thank you all for your comments and understanding. Tink, that is so cool that your dad is remembered and still appreciated. Diana, maybe there is still hope that she will come around. Sometimes time has a way of changing people.

Marilyn and Tink, I am so sorry you've lost your mothers. I can't even begin to imagine the pain you must feel. The reminders must be bittersweet, but I hope you are able to focus on the memories as a good thing and smile on them. *hugs*
