Life Back Briefly
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let you know. I'm trying to get back in touch with you all again. My life was not my own for a few months with my dad living here with us after his shoulder replacement surgery. He is now at home and grumpy. He lives 2 1/2 hours from me and I could vent but that's another thread. I took him home a couple of weeks ago and I cleaned his house top to bottom. My dad and I were never very close. Needless to say while he was here we bonded. He was so dead set about going home when he first came up here. He kept asking can i go home can i go home. Then when the time came he said when ever your ready for me to go home. Well the doctor cut him loose so I took him home. That was a rough 2 1/2 hour drive home. I cried almost the whole way home. He cried when i left and said I should have stayed up there with you. But now I try and talk to him every day. My brother lives 3 minutes away from him. So now I can try and get my life back in order and spend more time with my family that i have left up here. which is just my husband and my 16 year old daughter. I know that may sound selfish and that I may be cold hearted. My dad won't be around forever but at least I have gotten to spend quality time with him and gotten to know him better. Now he knows how hard we work and what all we do. I'm so thankflul I still have him in my life. Now maybe I can get more time with my 9 month old Grandson....Thanks for reading.

Welcome back!
I'm glad you're getting your life back to normal finally. It's gret you got to bond with your Dad, and were kind enough to take care of him when he needed you. It's good to have had that time, but I can understand why it's good to get back to a more normal life again as well.

What you're feeling makes perfect sense. You enjoyed the time and bonding you shared with your father, but at the same time, you need a normal life and are happy to get back to that. Just be thankful for the time you had together and try to see him as often as you can. There's absolutely nothing to feel guilty about! You are not at all selfish or cold-hearted!
Hope things continue to improve!

It's tough when your parents need help but you still have a family that needs you. You've been a good daughter to be there when your Dad needed you and your family has been great to allow you to be there for him. Now it's time for your family to come first again, but you can still help out your Dad when he needs you. What a treasure to get to know your father better and spend that special time with him. You'll always remember that time with him.
