Help!!!
The last week and half Gucci has been itching, I gave her baths and I thought that she was better. Last night she was scratching non stop and I checked the area and she was all red poor baby. This morning I called the vets office and I brought her in.
Well the vet found one flea YES A FLEA!!! I am so grossed out this poor baby.. I have been home since this afternoon throwing out area rugs, cleaning blankets, vacumming you get the picture.. I have meds for her she threw up after I gave her one pill I think because she also had her distemper shot while we were there.. Did any of your dogs ever get them?, do they go away right away, the vet said to vacuum every day for about a month, I have hardwood floors but she sits on my furniture and I have been vacuuming all day. Any suggestions ?? Being she had one is that a good sign ? or to they hide inside the house.....I HATE THIS!!! |

Did you give her Comfortis? If so, then it has to be taken with food. I know that because I've made that mistake with Reuger a couple of times. The medicine will start working pretty quickly and should kill fleas 30 minutes after they have gotten on the dog. Hey, you're in good shape if you only saw one flea!!! My dogs are outside all the time and they are always carrying them in. Thank goodness the Comfortis works!!! Good luck!!!

You can give her a bath in Dawn dishwashing liquid and it will kill fleas. Be sure to rinse her thoroughly though. I doubt you have fleas in your home, I'd vacuum thoroughly, but I wouldn't vacuum everyday. You have to be really infested with fleas to need to do that and I don't think that is the case. Our boyz get an occasional flea - but I never worry about fleas being in the house - we have leather furniture and wood floors, there's really no place for them to live. I never use any chemical or flea pills - but I know people who do and it works well for them. I just use Dawn when I find a flea.

I know there are fleas in our yard, but none of our 6 have had fleas. I use Revolution for heartworm, fleas and ticks. Never have to worry. I don't think you need to vacuume every day either. I've heard the Dawn dishsoap works well, but have never had fleas to try it.

The vet gave Gucci Capstar one pill yesterday and she is to take another tomorrow. But after I gave her the first she threw up about 20 min. later. I also put frontline on her... Cannot give her a bath for three days. ugh.. Today I started Termaril P I have to give a half tablet in morning and another at night for 4 days. Then I have a smaller dose to follow for the rest. She said this is for the itching and will relieve it...
Gayle I will try the dawn liq. when I can bath her over the weekend. thanks for that info.. Diana I will keep that pill in mind hopefully she doesn't need it again... Janet count yourself lucky! I am going to vacuum for awhile you don't know me.. I hate anything that crawls.. lol I do have all hardwood floors and ceramic so I am a little relieved to hear this Gayle.. Thanks ladies your the best!! |

Gina I wander if Capstar and the Frontline mixed may have made her sick? Just wandering. I'm assuming the Capstar is for fleas. I've never heard of it, but thank goodness we've never had a problem with them. Like Gayle said, Dawn is supposed to do the trick. My sister uses it on her Yorkie when fleas get on her.
