Me vs my eyes

Oh my goodness. Well, the good news is I don't have pink eye this time! Yayyyy!

Sunday night Scott and I were just hanging out watching a football game, and my eyes were tired so I rubbed them. All of a sudden there was this searing pain in my right eye and I couldn't see anything so I ran to remove my contacts. The right eye still stung and was really red. It stayed red all night.

Monday morning I drove Scott to work and it was so hard for me to drive to my work after. My eye is sooooo light sensitive now. I probably shouldn't have even tried. He has just been contracted to another company with an office in the north end of the city and I work downtown so it is quite a drive. It was worse picking him up after work.

This morning I made him drop me off first. I was sure I just had a scratch on my eye from my contact. So I went to work but it was awful. I had to turn my computer screen brightness way down... just enough brightness so I could read. Of course that strained my eyes a little more. After dealing with pain and tearing all morning, I called my optometrist and she squeezed me in this afternoon. Scott took off work to drive me.

She could see the irritation immediately, but when she looked closer and with dye in my eyes, there was no scratch. What I have in my right eye, and a little bit in my left eye as well, is a mass of white blood cells. She said I probably had a reaction to maybe my contacts or my contact solution or something, and there is no bacteria right now but it could become a bacterial infection easily. After doing a reading test, I realized my eyesight is qiute blurry from this! So anyways, she put me on an antibiotic (to prevent an infection) and steroid (to take down the inflammation) combination eye drop, and wants to see me back in a week. If it was left untreated, it could leave scar tissue that would affect my sight forever. I am so glad I went in!

That is so scary! If you have much more trouble with your eyes, I wish you would find a very special specialist! You are too young to deal with these things

Lindsey, you've been working so much, I wonder if your eyes are over-strained.

Maybe that could be it Gayle. The optometrist said she was surprised that I felt it suddenly because normally this issue progresses over time. I have been thinking about it tonight and I have been getting headaches a LOT lately, and they are always from behind my eyes. I am sure I've had a headache every day since I've been back to work after our honeymoon. I just figured it was eye strain from work and sinus problems with the cold I'm just getting over. But maybe it's been going on for longer and I just didn't realize it.

Good thing that you went to the eye doctor!! Our eyes are so important!! Now you have a reason not to work overtime!! "Sorry, but my eyes are so stressed now that my eye doctor recommended that I not work overtime!!" Works for me!!

The eye doctor did say I shouldn't look at a computer screen for more than a couple hours at a time for the next day or so until the eye drops work enough to take away some discomfort. So when I got back to the office yesterday I asked if there might be enough work to keep me busy all day at home, and there isn't really. So I brought my laptop home and I'm basically on standby... when someone emails me work, I'll do it. In the meantime, I'll use sick time and rest my eyes.
