Great thread!! I don't know how much to tip people like you mentioned either. I tip 15% + in restaurants depending on the level of service.
Are you supposed to tip the mailman and garbage collectors at Christmas? I've heard of people doing this though I never have and don't know if it's expected. Am I slighting them if I don't. It's not because I'm cheap that I don't, just don't know what is really appropriate. What do y'all do?

I just had my hair cut last week and I normally tip him $5.00 he charges me $25.00 for the haircut I am an old customer..lol Anyway, I heard on the radio on a morning show that you are suppose to tip the hairdresser what you pay for the haircut, I gave him 20 dollars, as far as resteraunt depending on service I give 15 to 20 percent.Bottom line give whatever you can afford.. I hope some of this info helped.

WOW, not that they're not worth it, but I go every 4-5 weeks for a cut and color. It cost me $45....there is NO way I can afford to pay $90 every time I go. I usually just tip $5 and sometimes that leaves me a little dry in the pocketbook. I don't tip the mailman...they make good money (at least here they do) or the newpaper carrier...it's never here on time and she is just the worst. I deduct everyone time it is late. I pay not only for the paper but the service...never had my nails done so I don't know. Like mentioned before.....just whatever you can afford.

My wash and blow dry is 17$ and I give her 23$ total ... she used to charge me 15$ and then raised it but I still pay the same, her tip just went down .... and I give the washing hair girl 2$ ....
I give about 20$ as a tip when she colors my hair and blow dries it ... that comes to 62$ (color etc is 40$ and 2$ tip for hairwasher and the rest is for her ... she raised that $5.00, so whatever is left over is her tip) ... I guess I shall give her 25$ for Xmas ... I think I gave 30$ last year and gave her a Movado watch (I had gotten it for my daughter but it was too tight, the hairdresser is very little) but i don't think she realizes what the watch is worth ... |
