Diet ~ Exercise ~ Diet ~ Exercise !!!
Did any of you ladies make a new years resolution to diet and exercise? Well, like an idiot I did, LOL. (actually made a ton more than that but we will just stick with this first)
Anyway....I actually began my diet and exercise program on the first and am trying so very hard to be diciplined and focused. I just thought that if anybody else has made the same "jump" we can check back to this thread weekly to post our progress. I thought maybe being held accountable might help some?? ![]() I will go first ... Kinda hard being this is mid week but oh well. As of to date I've lost ONLY 4 lbs but have exercised about 4 days a week doing a non-impact arobic workout for 20 min's. (can't go beyond 20 yet but trying) And have not splurged or broken the diet...YET. Ok ladies...I hope I am not the only one with this same resolution. My diet today has been "diet tea", oatmeal, fruit, and making stir fry tonight w/ tons of vegi's and chicken.

A lot for me has to "break old habits of cooking". I LOVE to fry, cover in butter or cream, add tons of cheese, etc. I've done this all my life and it's a complete turn around to learn to "enjoy" lighter less flavorable foods I guess is how I can explain it. My goal also is 20 lbs. If I hit that then I will shoot for 5 more. But right now, I'll just keep the goal at 20 lbs. C'mon ladies - share those healthy recipes please. ![]()

Yeah!!!! I didn't make a resolution to exercise!!!!! I made a resolution to lose weight!!!! So I'm off the hook with exercise. You had me worried for a little while!!! Whew!!!! Let's not think on this any longer or I might see room for error in this thinking!!!
Now, you wanted recipes. I'm not sure if this is considered diet but it's a recipe that you can really lighten up and it's really good. 1 c. no fat sour cream 1 c. Campbells Healthy Request Chicken soup Low fat or skim Milk 4-6 boneless Chicken breasts Herb seasoned bread crumbs In a 9X13 baking dish, sprayed with non-stick spray, mix the sour cream and the soup, then fill the soup can with milk and add this too. Stir well. Add 4-6 chicken breasts and bake for 50 minutes at 350*. Sprinkle herb seasoned bread crumbs (like you use to make stuffing) on top and bake another 10 minutes. This is really good served with rice. Good luck!!!

I'd suggest eating this dish as it is, or with a whole grain pasta. To make recipes low fat/lower cal, the key is to use low fat/lower cal ingredients like this recipe does. Also eliminate as much as possible any white flour (can use some white whole wheat), white rice, minimize the fruits. The white refined carbohydrates become sugar very quickly in your blood stream. Complex carbs from whole grains are much better. Fruits and carrots are high in sugars so should be minimized. Drinking a large glass of orange juice is like eating several oranges. Think about it. That's a lot of sugar. I've been dieting off and on since having children. I'm about 11 lbs overweight right now and working to get that off. I'm 52 and workout at least 4 to 5 times a week. Indoor cycling (spinning) is the best workout that I've found. More calories burned and cardio exercise for the time invested than treadmill or elypticals. When I can't spin, I do elypticals.

BTW, my father had his first heart attack at 52, so while I'm trying to stay looking good, my real motivation is fear of heart attack. I try to minimize the saturated fats, eat very few eggs. Low cholesterol and no transfats.
My avitar is Paula Dean. I don't look like that. ![]() I love to bake. It's a curse!!! Went nuts over Christmas and gained 3 ~ 4 lbs. I was just 7 to 8 lbs from my goal before. ![]()

I want to lose about eight pds, but I look at it as increments of 5lbs at a time. Have to phycic myself lol I haven't gotten on the scale yet but my clothes fit a little better, I cheat tho I just ate a cookie..Oh well.. Now I will go excersize a little. We should report back to each other once a week, and share our success stories or what we did differently. What do you think girls ? lets get our thinking caps on and give support to whomever wants to lose weight. Any suggestions? |

I didn't make a resolution to lose weight, but I did resolve to get healthy. I am a 54 year old and I am diabetic, Have been for 5 years and have been managing very well to keep my sugar in check. I am on meds and don't want to start the needle so it is important for me to stick to this healthy eating thing. I have found my best diet is more of portion control and lots of salads and veggies which I love. I really am not a big meat eater. I keep a stash of candy because I have a tendency to not eat often enough and then suffer from low blood sugar. It is a roller coaster ride much of the time. Smaller portions and just better choices have helped me lose and keep off 35 pounds. I have another 20 to go to be happy with myself. I hope to take it off this year as it gets harder every year.
I love to be outside and active when it is nice, but I seem to just stop in the cold of winter and not do much exercise. So I would love to be a part of this and be accountable, but I guess I will have to buy a scale. I have only weighed in at the doctors because I have to go every 3 months for bloodwork and follow-ups. Count me in and congrats on your loss and determination. Any loss is a victory!! HORRAY FOR YOU!! YOU GO GIRL!!!! RAH RAH RAH!!! |

Sheryl ~ 4LBS is a LOT ... find something that weighs 4lbs, and carry it around with you for a while, you'll see how heavy it gets.
![]() Healthy recipe's hmm... can't really help much there, but i have been thinking of the Kellog's diet for myself. Might try that... i would like to lose a few lbs, but my downfall is my nighcap ![]()
