Very Sad Day Today!

I told you all about the auction we were having today to finally get rid of whatever was left at the greenhouses. It was awful. Everything was so bare. There were not many people there and the bids were so low. They acted like they wanted it for nothing. Even the newest greenhouse and furnace/fan only went for $1500. It's worth well over $3500. We didn't want to give the stuff away, we need the money for my MIL in the nursing home. It was just so sad. When the auction ended, everyone started taking the items they bid on and won, including the light fixtures, shelves off the wall, everything that wasn't cemented down. I almost threw-up. I wish I had never gone out there, so I could remember how all the greenhouses were full of beautiful flowers and plants and now it's just a cold empty shell of a place that someone dedicated their life to. I'm just not dealing with this very well.

Awww i'm sorry you had to deal with this today! This is a great place to "escape" from all that goes on around you.
Hang in there, things will get better.

Thank you Mandy, I appreciate your reply. I know all things must come to an end sometime, but this was hard. I do have to say I am glad it didn't happen around the holidays. They are stressful enough. So, as they say...life goes on...I just wish sometimes it could stay still just a bit longer....

Remember that when one door closes another one opens. And yes, sometimes we do want certain things to last forever.
Try to hold on to the good memories you have from the greenery, i know it must be difficult to see people walk out with stuff that once belonged to your family, but all the good times you had there and all the experience you have, no one can ever take away from you.

i am so sorry janet you had such a sad day and i don't even know ,what it is all about, but i just want to say i will be praying for you that things will get better. From the little i can understand of what you said,it reminds me a lot of a very sad time i had to go trough several years ago.I was the owner of restaurant ,a german restaurant whih i loved with all my heart.I operated the place ,i decorated it i cooked and so many other things that are part of owning a restaurant.I had my whole heart in it,but due to unforseen circumstances there came the day ,after years of putting my all into it ,i had to let it go.Oh ,what a sad thing that was for me.My heart was attached to every thing in it,i could hardly see myself without it.But,life goes on,wheter we like it or not and with God's help i made it and you will too.God bless you.

Thanks everyone for the compassion. Life will go on I'm sure. We had just done a write up for the newspaper a few months ago and it just brought the past and how the floral and greenhouse business started in 1894 to the forefront. Then with the final auction of the greehnouse structures and everthing else yesterday, it was sad. I'm glad my step-MIL and husband were not there to see it. But we have lots and lots of pictures of all the greenhouses and the people throughout the years and just of all the fun we had there and all the memories. Thank you again
