American Furies
My local book group is reading American Furies. If you want to understand what has happened to the American prison system, it's an excellent read. The intro is a bit tough to get through but the rest of the book moves fast - I couldn't put it down. Libraries seem to have it. It's hardcover still so Amazon has it at a discount.

That sounds interesting Kate. I already have a ton of reading to do right now, but if you'll remind me during Christmas break, I'll try to find it! I'll probably ask for book suggestions then...

That sounds interesting, we have a huge bookstore a few towns away, next time i go there, i will look for it, or i might brows bol.com to see if they stock it. With winter coming along, i enjoy laying in bed at night with a book.

A book group friend and I split the cost of our copy. It took me just a few days to read - I just used every spare minute. It has taken her a month or so. We are working on prison issues together with one of the other women in our group - trying to change US and local laws and needed to be informed. Sasha Abramsky has written some other books too that I want to check out.
