Burglarized

Last night Layla was barking a few times, but she usually barks at night at anyone who walks by, so I ignore it. I ignored it again last night. This morning as I was getting ready for work, my brother called and said "There's a ladder in front of our deck. Are our barbeques still there? Is my mini bike still there?" I went out and looked, and the only thing missing was his mini bike (pocket bike). I had to hurry to work, but he's there now. He said that some of the boards on the deck are broken, like they tried to get the bike out that way instead of lifting it overtop.
The really scary thing is... our sliding glass doors to the house are NEVER locked, and last night was no exception. I think Layla might have scared them off when she was barking... not scared of her, but scared that she was waking someone up. They definitely thought it through, to bring a chair, upside-down 5 gallon pail, and a ladder to get up there. Especially on our busy street.
I just feel so vulnerable now.

Lindsey...thank God you're all right, it could have been a horribly different story had they gotten in. It's not a safe world anymore and even though we sometimes 'feel' safe, we can never take it for granted and let our guard down.

From now on girl....keep doors and windows shut and locked. I am so glad nothing happened to you!!! squeeze hug.gif

I am so glad too! Thank God for Layla! She might not be that intimidating, but I really think that's what kept them from taking more. We have two barbeques right there!
Anyways, my roommate's parents are coming in this weekend, and her mom said she will try to find us some kind of locking thing for sliding doors that is even better than the ones they come with.
My brother said he's going to buy another mini bike and sleep on the couch lol
I think Layla was really trying to wake me up last night because she was being BAD. On top of the barking and running around, she took one of her bows from my night stand, broke the barette on the back, and took a peice of the metal into my room and threw it around the floor. I got up and took it from her and went back to sleep... I was tired, and I'd deal with it in the morning. On a regular day I would have gotten up to find where the rest of the bow was. It was under the kitchen table, right beside the living room where the deck is. She also stole some other stuff from my room that I found under the table this morning. And she pooped right in front of the sliding doors LOL I guess just in case they tried to come in

I would imagine that the bike was probably what they were after but you probably need to get a chain and lock for the other items on your deck. It does sound like Layla was a pretty good watch dog!!! You should make sure that she gets some extra loving and treats today!!!!

As far as locking your sliding glass door all you need is a dowl rod or a piece of wood cut to fit in the track of the door when it's closed. It's very easy to lock and unlock too.

Thank goodness that you're alright and that he decided not to come on into the house. I'm sure that it was very scary when you found out.

My dogs are barkers for sure and I do complain about it. But they are also my watchdogs when the guys are gone camping with Scouts. It's probably a good thing too that you did ignore her...hard telling what could have happened if they new a pretty young lady was in the house alone.

Lock your slider! Your baby probably did scare them off... Im sure they pretty much targetted the mini-bike though. At least now they know there is a dog there and its not a good place for them to come back! Im sorry though... I know how it feels too... my house got broken into when we were kids... it sucked!
