A Sad Day......

I have a friend that I've gone to church with for years, Shari. She's a wonderful school teacher and taught each of my kids in middle school and even coached a couple of my girls in volleyball. Jaci has grown up with her children, Brandi and Bret.

Brandi graduated from high school a couple of years ago and went to college. While there she met a boy and got pregnant. They found out soon into the pregnancy that the baby was a boy and that he had a severe heart defect. At church we've prayed for this baby, Jordon, and Brandi.

The baby was born on Sept. 2 and weighed 7 lbs and 8 oz. A very healthy looking little boy but oh so, sick. Brandi, nor her boyfriend could hold the baby because of the seriousness of his health but were able to touch and sing to him.

On Tuesday, Sept. 15th it was decided to go ahead and do the first of three surgeries that were needed to start to repair Jordon's little heart. The news we first received was to pray hard because things were not good and after praying within 30 minutes we received news that the impossible had happened and we were hopeful but told that the next 24 hours were critical. There was still a blood clot that had the flow of blood blocked from his little legs so medicine was given and we all waited by our phone for a report.

The next morning the news was bad. The medicine that was given had caused problems and the baby was fading. I checked on line for a journal entry that Jordon's grandmother, Shari, was writing to keep us all updated and it sadly said that Baby Jordon had passed away in his mother's arms. How sad.

This morning we went to Baby Jordon's funeral. There was the tiniest casket that I'd ever seen in the front on a table. We had another baby born in our church right before Jordon's death and it's just been so hard. To be so happy for one baby and grieving for another. Being at the funeral and thinking of all that Baby Jordon will miss out on and what his parents will miss out on brought back so many memories and feelings of when I had my miscarriage years ago. It was so hard and my arms felt so empty that I find myself knowing how Brandi feels. I hope that the Lord wraps his arms around her and gives her so much comfort. It's so hard because we just don't understand.

Diana, you are such a wonderful woman. I ditto your feelings to the family, as I followed the Jordon's journal and offered my prayers.

There were 5 girls pregnant when I was pregnant with my first daughter, Laura:
1) Carolyn, my best friend from high school (Theresa was born two weeks after)
2) Debbie, a sister-in-law (Shannon a month before)
3) Sharon, a friend (daughter born two days after)
4) Louann, a co-worker (daughter born two months after)
5) Dorothy, from church (daughter was stillborn ten days before) - I went to the funeral and she looked like a doll in that casket. I will probably never forget that day and the mixed emotions I had - compassion, anger, sympathy, sadness, and most of all - fear for my unborn child. The baby is buried on the next row from my parents and I stop for a minute there to thank God for the blessings of my children.

Oh Diana, this is so very sad. I am deeply sorry for you and your dear friends. I will keep them in my prayers as well. I don't know the loss of a child. This has to be devastating.

I hope they can feel God's presence Diana. I know it would be so devastating to lose a child. My heart and my prayers go out to them.

Oh Diana! I'm so very very sorry - it is so hard to lose such a precious little angel! My brother and his wife lost a little one - he was born premature - but alive - in a huge snow storm in rural Oklahoma, in a little hospital with no advanced facilities to care for a preemie. The snow was so bad they couldn't send a helicopter for him till it was too late. I know what you mean about the tiniest casket I have ever seen.

Again, I am so sorry.

This is so strange. I attended a visitation yesterday morning for a baby who was born and died on September 14th. It was the smallest casket I had ever seen, too. This baby name was Nolan Ryan F. Both stories are so very very sad. In this case it was a detached placenta before the mother got to the hospital. She was bleeding badly, but the could still detect a heartbeat and delivered by c-section, but it was too late. They held the baby and took pictures. I wasn't prepared for the slide show.

Hope that you and all there can be comforted in this very sad time.

Marilyn and Gayle, I'm so sorry for your friends' and family's losses. It's one thing when a person dies who has lived a long and wonderful life but it's so hard when it's a life that's just beginning. I mean, not only is the baby robbed of a full life but the parents are robbed, well.....of being parents. I guess that it's just one of those questions that we'll have to ask Jesus when we get to heaven. Let's see........that's number........65,437 on my list!!!!

How sad to bury a baby. The only solace is that the little one is with God now, and that God has a reason for it. I cannot imagine how heartbroken the parents are.
