Jaci......
In our community we have a big celebration called "Homecoming". It's the first Saturday of October. We have a small hometown parade. You know, with a few floats (4-H, churches, banks, ets), a few political candidates riding in convertibles, kids on bicycles or 4-wheelers, a few farmers new tractors, the fire trucks and ambulances, the bands from school and a few other schools, the Shriners in their little cars, etc.). The town swells to around 10,000 people or so. We have times set up at one of the schools for little mini reunions of the different classes that graduated here. There's a carnival with rides and games sponsored by the bank. There are different activities planned for all day. There are dances in the evening and a bean feed, where one of the local clubs cooks ham and beans all day and it's free to who ever comes and gets a bowl. It's a really big day in our town.
On Thursday of next week one of the high school seniors will be named Homecoming Queen. There are 6 girls trying out this year and Jaci is one of them. I'm so excited!! People from out of town are brought in for judges so it's not like a popularity contest. The girls are questioned at some point by the judges and then there's a talent contest. Jaci is really good at putting actions to music (we say that she's doing a human video) so that's what she doing for her talent. Several of the girls are singing and Jaci can sing like a dream but for some reason she doesn't enjoy doing it. I think that her talent will be different enough that it will make her stand out. We'll see what happens. I do know that there is only one winner so I'm not getting my hopes up too high. We also have a Homecoming Princess which is chosen only by the questioning. The queen and princess both get to sit at the top of floats with their court around them. It's really only an honor for a day but then they also get their picture in the yearbook. Cross your fingers!!! We'll see what happens!!!!
