Rowdy limping
Well, now it is my little Rowdy-boy limping. He is 5 years old and pretty healthy, except for a sensitive GI track.
He started holding up his right rear leg late Thursday evening. He was also licking his pad and then later the top of the foot. I couldn't see anything wrong and he didn't whince or cry when I manipulated the foot/let. We carried him out to potty and to bed. I carried him out to potty Friday morning and he limped a little, but in a few minutes he was fine and walked fine the rest of the day - actually I was gone to work during the day, but Gary didn't notice him limping and he wasn't limping when I came home. Well, wouldn't you know it - about the same time last night, just before bed, he started limping and holding the back leg up when walking. Again, he was licking his foot. So, we carried him to bed and I carried him out this morning, but he never would put it down while walking. I had graduation this morning at 9:00 that I had to attend. I was sure he'd be OK when I got home at 10:45, but of course, he was not - so we raced to our vet (who closes at noon) his office is about 30 minutes away. Thankfully, the vet could not find anything wrong with the foot, knee or hip. He didn't have a temp, so no infection in the leg. He says the knee is the most suspicious, but it checked out fine. He thinks maybe he sprained or twisted the toe and it is hurting. But again, Rowdy didn't wince or cry during any manipulation. So, we just got some NSAIDs to take for 6 days and hopefully, that will cure the problem! Oh, and my sweet vet only charged me $16. Rowdy stopped holding up the leg about 2 hours after I gave him the first pill, so hopefully this will do the trick!

It's so scary with these Yorkies!!! They are so small it could be anything. Glad to know the Vet didn't think it was anything serious.

Awww poor Rowdy! Glad he's doing better Gayle! What a nice vet you must have to only charge $16. Seems like it's always something with one of these babies! But I swear I know if your like me......you wouldn't take anything for them and the least little thing it's off to the vet!

Poor lil guy. I hate it when my babies are injured.
Daisy was limping last night and I noticed that her 4 month old sister bit her pad! Daisy is so good to Pixie and puts up with so much of the puppy behavior. She deserves an extra something special in her stocking! |

Ahhh Gayle, hope he is feeling better, it is just awful when our little babies are ill or injured.
My Harvey had something wrong with his foot in the summer, he was lick lick lick at it, i at first thought he had cut it, and he does come running straight to me if he is hurt or someone shouts at him etc - so mummy can make it all better Anyway..... after checking all over i could not see anything, so a bathed it in salt water, and after a while he left it alone, we decided either he had twisted a nail, stood on something sharp, or been stung. Hope little Rowdy is ok.

Hi All. Rowdy limped just a little bit this morning, but not consistently. I gave him his NSAID pill with breakfast and no more limping at all today. Hopefully, this medication will eliminate any inflammation he has. He takes it for 6 days!
Thanks for all your kind words.
