Gary made it home
He came in from the deer lease last evening. He had a nice time down there with his aunt, two uncles and a cousin. They were there 6 days. His uncle and cousin got a deer. Gary brought part of one deer home for his uncle to have it made into summer sausage. So, we spent a couple of hours washing and cutting up the meat this morning getting it ready to take to the processor.
This will probably be the last hunting trip to this particular lease as they are losing the lease the first of Feb because the landowner has sold the property. Gary has been on this lease for 10 years, so he is grieving a bit. It is OK, he has another place to hunt, but it will be sad to sell all the stuff they have down here. He and his best friend built the camp house from scrap lumber and reclaimed materials. It has been a fun place for him to go - but all things come to an end. I will be glad for him to be able to hunt closer to home and not have to stay away from home for days. He will be OK too, after everything is sold and taken care of. I think I have posted these pix before, but here are some pix of the camp house. We have a lot of "stuff" to sell!

The cabin does look like a fun place for the guys Gayle. It would make me sad too not to have it anymore. It's nice that he has another place to go, but having built the cabin and all...it just won't be the same.
I'll be going through the same thing with Mom soon. She's planning on going to Florida again, but she shouldn't be going. It will probably be her last time. Mom loves that place and she has really fixed it up nice. Hopefully before the season is over, Gary will have his deer. Good luck Gary!!

That looks like a hunter's paradise! And it sure looks like he has lots of stuff to sale. Will they have a cabin to stay in on the other land? I'm sure that the guys have made alot of memories in this place. It's too bad they have to give it up. Lots of good wishes to Gary

That is a great cabin Gayle! I love the turquoise porch thingies. Sorry Gary has to let it go, especially after building it. It looks like they had some good hunting there too. All of those deer heads and antlers!

I'm sure that it will be really hard to let go of this deer camp because of all the special memories that it holds and all the hard work that they put into building it. I'm so glad that he got to go, stay, and hunt one last time in it. It will probably be hard to part with all the stuff that they've collected to go in it. Give Gary a hug from me! It's so hard when life changes.

Hi Paula, no there isn't a cabin to stay in at the new place, but they don't need one because it is only 3 miles from where Gary's friend lives and Gary can stay there if he wants to stay overnight. The property is only 60 miles from our home, so mostly he will just come home. If they do want to spend a few days out on the property, they can take our little travel trailer.

Gayle, so glad he got to spend this time there. It's hard to let go of things like this.

It really is to bad he won't be able to go there anymore. Looks like a nice set-up.
I would so love to have a place to park my butt for a weekend! Out in the woods, little hideaway. Maybe someday... |
