Ice fishing weekend

Scott and I drove to the cabin on Friday night for a weekend of ice fishing! My brother, his girlfriend, and the two little girls were already there when we arrived. The cabin looks so good! All that's left to do in the main room is bring out the rocking chair I got my mom, install baseboards on two walls, and put up crown molding. But it was still very inviting... enough so that Scott and I finally went to bed at about 2:30 am. We couldn't sleep until 4:30 am when everyone else went to bed

On Saturday morning, we got up and had breakfast pretty late! Everyone bundled up to go out to the ice-fishing shack on the lake. Scott and I were on the Ski-Doo, and we pulled the little girls behind on a sled. My brother was on the sled with them too, to make sure they didn't fall out My dad drove the truck and we met him out there. We drilled about 10 holes and used tip-ups in most. The shack has three holes, so Scott and I sat in there with Shaun's puppy because it's warm (we have a wood burning stove in it).

The little girls got quite bored lol! But they would take turns going for rides with my dad or Shaun. Morgann was pretty sad that we hadn't caught a fish after a couple of hours. She thought we'd have to stay ALL night. About an hour later, we got a hit on a tip-up! They pulled it up and there was a good-sized fish. You should have seen the excitement! I told Morgann "Now you don't have to sleep in the ice-fishing shack tonight!" and her eyes got huge and she said "I KNOW!" Lol!

Scott and I decided to head back and Morgann wanted to go too. She and I rode on the sled behind the Ski-Doo. We weren't even gone 10 minutes when she started to rag-doll and her head flopped sideways lol. I had to get Scott to stop and ask Morgann if she could try her hardest to stay awake until we got back to the cabin. Both girls were passed out hard just a couple hours after we ate. It's tiring out there!

Yesterday I decided to stay home with my mom while everyone else went back out. I just needed a break from the kids and the dog! So my mom and I sat around and talked for most of the day, and we took Layla for a walk, and did some cooking. When they finally got back from ice fishing, we had spaghetti with homemade sauce ready. It was delicious On our way home, we all stopped at the house in town for about an hour, and then continued back to the city.

We got back just before 11 last night... enough time for me to have a bubble bath before bed. I have to say I'm kind of sad to be home I really miss my old small town life!

Wow what a busy weekend. But you got to spend it with family that is always nice. My hubby likes to ice fish but I have never gone with him. Maybe one of these days i will. Who knows.

Lindsay! That sounds like so much fun! We don't have ice fishing, but Gary's family has a cabin at the lake for years and we get together to fish, swim, and ride the seadoos in the water (instead of skidoos on the ice! LOL!). It is so much fun to have everyone together.

I know you miss that experience! I do too! I'm so glad you had so much fun with your family. Did you catch any more fish?

I have to say I do prefer summer days at the cabin to winter days at the cabin lol! I really want a seadoo but we have never gotten one! We do have three boats and fish quite often in the summer too.

On Sunday they caught just one more fish, so Shaun took them both home since I'm not much of a fish eater. I think I ate way too much when I grew up in northern Saskatchewan

I'm not sure if I've posted this picture here before, but I can steal it from my facebook Here's me ice fishing when I was about 3 or 4 years old!

I am so glad you and your mom have been back on track
I love that rocking chair you got for her, it reminds me of my dearly missed grammy.

I get a little home sick as well, you just have to remind yourself it is good to have some place and some people to miss. Memories are wonderful but the life you have now is making you so happy!

Becky, I'm glad we're back on track too! She is so much happier and more energetic now too. She hasn't had a cigarette since September! I'm so proud of her!

Paula, I did take more pictures of the cabin, so I'll try to upload them tonight
