my discouraging search.....
well i dont really know what forum to put this in... but i guess general is here for a reason lol
my best friend has fallen in love with my yorkie Oscar... and recently her cat of 6 years has just died so we decided that we would try to find her a little girl yorkie. we decided that if we both chipped in what we could.. we could spend around 500$... which is cheap for a yorkie... and as im realizing... practically impossible. im getting more and more discouraged as im talking to these breeders and they are all getting more and more rude! i tell them that i know that its a low price and i understand if they dont have anything available that they can give me for that price... and they just keep ripping into me about it! it all started with one yday who told me "no, GO TO THE POUND". all i can think of is.. i do look there everyday and the newspaper. i just so happened to be able to "rescue" Oscar for the price of shipping b/c he had a hernia and other medical conditions. and i keep praying that there will be another situation like that for my friend Candice. She is the most responsible caring, animal lover i know, and i know that a breed like a yorkie will be absolutely perfect for her. Her boyfriend just recently broke up with her about a month after he said they were going to get married... and i just really wanted to help her find something new to have in her life and someone that she could love again. i just wanted to vent a little about the struggle and the arrogant breeders......i wish that everyone got the chance to experience the love of a yorkie.. it truly is different from other dogs... ok im gonna stop whining and keep looking!!!!!!! |

AWWWWWWWW, sweetie! I know firsthand how discouraging it can be looking for a yorkie. We looked for our first yorkie for MONTHS. Then, one day I called a breeder and just like every other breeder she sent me pics of the puppy she had available and pics of its parents. When I opened up that email from her with those pictures, I knew instantly that Hobbs was going to be ours. I tried to cut down on the discouragement (is that a word?) by only calling breeders that I knew were in my price range. Have you tried Craig's List? I know a lady who found many ads for many yorkies on Craig's List for under $500. She paid $350 for hers. GOOD LUCK in your search. Something will come along and you will know for sure when you have found the perfect yorkie for your friend. Good things take time. I know it's hard to be patient, but good things come to those who wait.
Also try www.petfinder.com. I see yorkies under $500 on there ALL THE TIME!

YAY! Please keep us updated. If I hear of any yorkies around your price range, I'll definately let you know!!!! But don't be discouraged. Like I said, it took months for me to find Hobbs bc I was very picky and I had a price range I had to stick to. I have no regrets from waiting...he is everything I could have imagined, and more. We loved him so much that we even got a little girl from his same parents when they had another litter. It was well worth the wait.

Good luck with your search. Be careful looking at Petfinder.com or any other site. There's been a lot of scams posted on there. Please check either here or on Yt for information if you're going to purchase from the internet.
I paid $400 for Reuger and he's absolutely perfect. I got him from a girl who breeds her household pets. It was a great deal. Keep looking there are good deals out there you just have to be patient enough to find them.

I think the one that has all the scams is puppyfinder.com, not petfinder.com. Petfinder lists dogs and puppies that need to be rescued. Usually you only have to make a small donation to the shelter in order to get a dog from them....usually around $150 or so...sometimes more, sometimes less depending on the shelter and if the dog needed some sort of special medical attention.
