Not a bed and breakfast...

Some of you might know our home used to be operated as a bed and breakfast. It is not set up like a bed and breakfast, there is no seperate bedroom areas or anything, and we recently found out that the people who owned it didn't even live there, they just let the people in, and came over in the morning to cook. The last people owned the house for 6 years and used it as a family home, just as we are. It hasn't been a B&B in years.

Anyways, last night we just got home from work and hadn't even turned lights on and the doorbell rang. Scott answered and there was a man asking "Is this the bed and breakfast people told me about?" Scott said it was years ago, and he said "Oh it must be an old listing then" and he walked back to his van and drove away. I felt kind of bad if he needed a place to stay, but we're only 20 minutes from the city and it wasn't that late so I'm sure he found somewhere.

So just now I googled the name of the B&B and it turns out they operated well as a business... there are old advertisements all over the internet! Our neighbors said the last owners had people show up sometimes and now we've had one. It just kind of makes me feel a little unsettled! I may have to email tons of websites to have the listing removed.

Gosh Lindsay, that would be unsettling! I have seen old ads on the internet for places that I've known to be closed for several years. That will be a real pain if you have to track down all those old ads!

I would feel the same as you Lynsey! Wow I wonder if you'll even be able to find all of the sites that it's listed on. That will take alot of time too. Good luck sweetie.

Unfortunately, a lot are old listings that are still available, such as PDF's put out by the city for accomodations in and around town and things to do etc. Some of them are old copies that other sites have taken and used too. I'm finding most are in PDF format, like brochures, listed with a bunch of other places for tourists. They wouldn't be able to simply remove our listing if they don't have the original document. It looks like we just may have random people at our door every once in awhile

That's odd. It does seem like once something is on the internet that it stays there!!! Hopefully you won't have too many come to your door.........or you could set up a room and charge them for it!!!! LOL

Lol that's what Scott said! But for an extra $60 in our pockets (what the websites all say we charge lol) I wouldn't be comfortable being awake all night because there's a stranger in the next bedroom!

Wow, that's really weird and scary. I think you should track down all the web pages and start sending e-mails.
