quit smoking book

Hi Girls! I don't know if this is the right place to post this so if not...forgive me Admin....My daughter quit smoking 3 weeks ago and hasn't gained any weight or had any cravings...she read "The easy way to quit smoking" I took it from her today and going to read it...You actually continue to smoke while you are reading the book...by the time you get to the end of the book you throw your cigarettes away FOREVER!! So far everyone who has read this book has quit..and, NOT gained weight! I had quit for 7 yrs....when I was going through my divorce I started back up again...I am remarried and my,now, husband is also a smoker so it isn't going to be easy but, I do want to get rid of this nasty, smelly habit...If anyone wants to quit and would like the name and author of the book just let me know and I would be glad to post it....I probably won't start reading right now...I have been depressed lately and just don't think this is the right time but, I will certainly post when I do quit!

Please share the author and name of the book. I quit smoking when I had my surgery a little over 2 weeks ago and the cravings are kicking my butt!!!!! I dream about cigarettes. When I walk by someone smoking, I inhale them AND their second hand smoke. I'm eating non stop and it makes me mad!!!!!

Kimberley, just wanted to encourage you to stick with your plan. You may be eating not just because you quit smoking, but because you just had surgery. Your body is using a lot of energy to heal right now. I always lose weight, 10 lbs or so, after major surgery because of this.

Join us at the Healthplex when your up to it. The indoor cycling classes will help you keep the pounds off & tone up your heart as well. Not smoking and doing this will make you feel like a million bucks!!!

Thanks for the invite, Marilyn. I'd love to join the Healthplex...just don't know why they charge so much for membership. I'll think of something.

I wish you girls the best of luck at quiting this habit. My Dad passed away this spring because of lung disease caused from smoking. Good luck to all of you and I'm proud of you for your efforts!!

Brenda...I'd be interested in the book too and want to tell you if you ever need to talk - you have friends who will listen and I'm sorry you've been feeling bad. You're probably smart to wait till you feel better though. Dealing with depression must be hard enough without adding trying to quit an addiction.

I smoke........But I'm watching firsthand what can happen to people who smoke and get ill from it. My husband was diagnosed with emphysema not long ago and is now down to only 15% Lung capacity. He can't walk 20 feet without turning gray & no longer can work. From what the doctors say - it's just a matter of time before organs begin to fail at the levels he's at.

I hate that I still smoke.

I hate that I can't and don't want to quit.

I think about quitting but some days I just can't even go 2 hours without a ciggy. I used to smoke very little but now ....lets just say about a pack a day sounds right ...maybe less. It helps being on the computer or busy because I don't smoke in my house but man - it's a hard hard habit to break -

I've smoked since 5th grade and found when I get down or feel stressed (& lately things have been super stressful) - the more I reach for a cigarrette. I keep telling myself to try the patches .....but I think I'd have to wear 50 of them & plaster them all over my body

The book is called - The Easy Way to Stop Smoking- by Allen Carr

We have discussed your husband and I feel so bad for what he is going through. My Dad has emphyzema as well but, not to that degree...His is also from smoking and he worked in the paper mill for years...that didn't help either...Like I said...right now isn't really a great time for me to quit...I think I will be doing this after the holidays..I probably smoke 1/2 or little more packs a day...I can and have gone over 8 hours without smoking...you would think it would make it easier for me to quit but...it doesn't and.....I had quit for 7 yrs...went through a divorce and started up again...I KNOW it is going to be harder this time....My daughter (that just quit using this book) doesn't even have cravings for a cigarette...and she was a very heavy smoker!! she did say that she dreams that she smokes but doesn't wake up wanting one...I really hope she continues...she is already past week 3 and on her way to week 4...I am so proud of her.

Thank you V! I know I have friends here and you are one of the special ones...And....so do you!

I'm planning on getting the book too. I hope it's not too late, but sometimes being so out of breath (overweight too) and my lungs aching, I worry. It just adds to the stress making it harder to quit. I did try the patches a long time ago and they worked, 4 years later I started in again. If anyone does try the patches, I recommend putting them on right before bed. You don't have the morning cravings near as bad. Right after Christmas I'm gonna try again. I have the patches, now all I need is to get the book!

Janet, my daughter tried the patches and didn't have much luck with them...She read this book and is now on week 4 of no smoking!!! YAAAAYYYY ERIN!! To tell you the truth...I never thought this would do it for her...she was a very heavy smoker and only 28 yrs old...so if it worked for her it can work for all of us...I am going to start reading the book next week..

Good Luck to you!

I'm going to try and purchase the book this week while I'm off. I just figured I'd use both, won't hurt for extra back up!!!
