Famous Photos
I stumbled upon a website yesterday with famous pictures on it, some of which are some of my favorite photographs ever taken, and I thought I'd share.
First surviving photo.jpg This is the very first photograph ever taken. It was an 8 hour exposure so you can see sunlight on both sides of the buildings. Ever wonder why people are always frowning in portrait photos way back? The exposures were like an hour, so you had to sit still for that long, frowns are just easier to hold. the_kiss.jpg A particularly famous photograph. Found out not long ago that the man or the woman in the photo actually lives in my hometown. There was nothing really special between the people, the guy had actually been grabbing every girl down the street and kissing her, there just happened to be a photographer standing by for this one, he got slapped right after the picture was taken. Holland House.jpg This is the Holland House Library in London, England during the Battle of Britain during WWII. I love this photo because even though there isn't a roof, the patrons are simply reading their books as if nothing is wrong, rather than looting like what usually happens now. ebbetslunch.jpg My all-time favorite photograph. I plan on getting a poster-sized copy of this and hanging it over my couch when I eventually get an apartment. My boyfriend's grandfather on his dad's side looks remarkably like one of the guys in the photo, and was even in that industry, but we know for sure he's not in the picture, would have been ABSOLUTELY AMAZING if he was!!!

I love those pictures! I have a post-sized pic of the man and woman kissing hanging in my bedroom.

That last one was taken in Pittsburgh, I'm pretty sure, so there is a lot of history behind it. It's one of my favorites. I also like the kissing one, but I would've smacked him too I think. lol

I think the one of the sailor kissing the girl was taken at the end of the war, in Times Square NYC. They are great Lissa thanks for sharing.

The only picture that I've seen before was the sailor kissing the girl. That last picture was really cool. I can't imagine sitting that high up and looking that relaxed!!! Thanks for sharing!

I'm not real comfortable with heights even though sometime I have to climb in my work. That last picture is very creepy to me. Melissa if you hang this over your couch, I'll have to close my eyes when I go to sit on your couch.

Those are great Lissa. Were those the only pics on the site? I would love to see more.

It's a relatively new site so there weren't too many photos up yet. Here's some more that I love though
9191~Lunch-above-Manhattan-Posters.jpg Lunch Above Manhattan...another of my absolute favs don't look mum, but this one'll probably be in my apartment too tiananmen_square.jpg Tienanmen Square Protest...I saw something on this once that the guy wasn't some rebellious leader, he was just an ordinary guy that was ticked off one day. first-human-x-ray-1896.jpg The very first human xray taken by Wilhelm Rontgen in 1896 of his wife's hand greatdayinharlem.jpg "A Great Day in Harlem" or "Harlem 1958" is a black and white group portrait of 57 famous jazz musicians photographed on a Harlem street. Art Kane, a freelance photographer working for Esquire magazine, took the picture at around 10 a.m. in the summer of 1958. This photo also plays a crucial role in the movie The Terminal with Tom Hanks.

What wonderful photos! Thanks so much for sharing. I love the one of the sailor kissing the nurse. I wouldn't have slapped him - the war was over and everyone was showing their happiness.
