I'd like to apply for illegal status!

The Honorable Tom Harkin
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Phone (202) 224 3254

Washington DC, 20510

Dear Senator Harkin;

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted The Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the Process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's Provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years.

I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out.
Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local
emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have
stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year!

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as "in-state" tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the
burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become
illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary
forms, I would be most appreciative.

Thank you for your assistance.

I seriously doubt any of us would like to be an illegal immigrant considering how badly they are treated, especially when all they want is to make a better life for themselves and be able to afford to feed their families...I'm glad someone is actually passing legislation to try to help this situation. It is long overdue.

I was thinking about this yesterday, and seriously - those people are not all that bad off! We have them here, they get housing, and interiour, furniture down to a microwave from the government. But when hard working people need some support, they get told to sell their house, car, and all the luxuries they own. Thats the bonus you get for paying heavy tax!

Exactly!!! Our small little town will never be the same and that's a shame.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not prejudice in any way, shape or form, but there are laws and rules. They need to be followed!

I agree! Instead of spending so much time and energy to reward these people for immigrating the wrong way, we should see this as a sign that we need to work on our legal immigration process and make it more streamlined and welcoming people into our country and citizenship the right way. Does that make sense?

Yes, my question is...are we being infiltrated? Makes you wonder what is really going on....with so many coming here illegally. I'm not going to say anymore, I don't want anyone to think I'm prejudice, I'm not, I would feel this way toward anyone coming here in great numbers illegally.

Oh I don't think you're prejudice. I'm not either. I am upset that the USA is making this process so difficult for people to do the right way.

I agree... I'm sorry if this offends anyone but seriously..... they get a FREE education and yet born Americans like myself who work full time and go to school full time cannot qualify for financial aid because I make "according to them" too much $$ and I have to get myslef in debt with student loans... where is the fairness in that?

Angie:

Of course, you're absolutely right, but that is one funny letter! I think it's okay to make it easy for those illegals who are already here, but I have to agree that the focus should be on making it easier to be legal.

For the illegals who are here already, we have to find a way to make them legal citizens. Then they too can pay taxes and car insurance premiums. Seriously though, I had 2 brothers as students - lovely young men - who couldn't get into college 2 years ago because their parents were illegals. It was such a shame One was very bright and a total asset to our country, and his younger brother was going to drop out because he couldn't see the point if he couldn't go to college.

I dont think you have offended anyone girl, i am sure many people feel the same way.
Im going through a similar issue with my son, most of hes classmates get financial aid (those parents get it) i tried to apply last year, after a friend told me, they got it, so why wouldnt we get it. They also run their own business, and she has a parttime job, i know they have a high income. Well, back to the point, they refused us, according to them, our income over the past years was higher then average. I honestly dont know what we do wrong, i always pull on the short end of the stick. You are right Cindy, it just isnt fair!!

Very Funny!

As a legal immigrant in Canada now, it's really hard and expensive to be one.
