Unhappy Poisoned?!?!

The hospital told us that Brendon's dad may have been poisoned! I am beyond words right now so I'm sorry if I ramble...

My FIL as you know has been in the hospital in ICU for the past few days and the doctors just can't seem to find out what's wrong with him. He lost 25% of his blood the day he was admitted to the hospital. When he was in the ambulance on the way to the ER, his wife (Brendon's "evil" step-mother I've mentioned before) yelled at him the whole way. He doesn't remember what she was yelling about (he was in and out of consciousness), but he says she really just didn't care if he lived or died. She was probably mad because she found out that he's trying to get enough evidence to send her back to jail. She left the hospital before he was even taken to a room...

Well, when he was admitted, they put him under a state name (the same way they do for someone in the witness protection program). We didn't really think anything of this until the family advocate told us tonight that it was standard procedure when there was a suspected poisoning or intentional harm to the patient. When we talked to Brendon's dad about it, he was really scared. He says that she (his wife) had started making his lunch for him this past week...and she's never done that before, EVER! Everyday she packed a ham sandwich and jello along with a few other things. Brendon and his dad think she used a hypodermic needle to inject something into the jello cup. She's a former nurse so she has lots of them around the house.

We asked the person at the front desk why he would've been given a state name when he was admitted, just to be sure that it wasn't just standard procedure for patients arriving by ambulance, or those admitted to ICU, or something like that...and he said the same thing as the advocate...it's only when there is a suspected poisoning or some kind of intentional harm.

They are both really freaked out...and honestly, so am I. I just can't stop thinking about it. How could someone do this? Did she mean for him to die or just get sick? Where do we go from here? How do we protect him? No one deserves the pain and suffering she's put him and his children through. I just don't know how someone can be so cruel and heartless...

Just to give you an update, he was moved back to ICU tonight. He's bleeding internally and his hemoglobin levels dropped by 30% in just a few hours time. Please pray for him if you think of it.

Thanks for letting me vent...

Oh Lord Angie, this is horrible. I don't even know what to say? First off, prayers and well wishes for your FIL. My heart truly goes out to him and your family.

You must be just worried sick and I am so terribly sorry for you and everyone involved.

I am assuming the police are involved (?) and will get to the bottom of this suspected poisioning. It's just horrible and I do hope all the answers are given to shelter your FIL or anybody else from future harm.

Hugs to you Angie and your family - so many hugs !! I am really just saddened and sorry all this is taking place right now.

Please keep us informed - Many prayers are sent.

Oh Angie, how horrible for your father-in-law. First off, I know it's a suspected poisoning, but with that much blood loss that fast....ask about a test, called something like a 'tagged blood count'. Anyway, when my Mom lost all that blood at once, it was because she had a hole/tear in her colon and this test will detect that. Maybe the poisoning could have caused something like this.

Now, as far as your sick mother-in-law, I hope Brendan father doesn't go back to live with her when he is released. You never know what she may be capable of. Is there someplace else he can stay until this is resolved?

Will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Brendon......I'm so sorry sweetie you have to go through this. Please know you're in my heart and prayers.

Thanks for your concern guys. We thought he was being rushed to surgery last night, but they didn't end up doing that. Brendon's on the phone now trying to find out what's going on.

Sheryl, the police have not been involved. We didn't even know about this until yesterday and he's been in the hospital for several days now! We're going to talk to the Dr. today to find out more and see if that's what he believes happened.

Janet, the reason he stays with her is because Brendon's younger brother still lives at home and he doesn't want her to take him and leave. She doesn't know that we suspect anything. She's always been evil, but I don't think he's ever feared for his life before. She's hurt him physically and such (like breaking his toes by stomping on them), but she's never done anything like this.

I hope they can de-tox his body and restore his health soon, Angie. If there is any research you need help with, as you get details and need to know more, just say the word. You might be able to track down who in the US has the most experience with poisons through the national network:

U.S. Poison Centers
Currently there are 61 Poison Centers in the United States. You can reach the Poison Centers closest to you by dialing . When you dial this number, your call is routed to the Poison Center that serves your area. The call is toll free, and works from anywhere in the United States.

Just thinking the more info you have, the better you can advocate for Brendon's dad.

hugs!

Oh no...there is a younger brother at home. She wouldn't hurt him would she? If she's done this to your FIL, I would be so frightened for the young man too. She's not right, if she's doing these things and she needs help. Sorry Angie, that this is going on when it should be a lovely time for family.

Angie, i am terribly sorry this is going on, i can only imagine how worried you all must be.
How old is the younger brother?
I do hope the police gets involved, and get to the bottom of all this, so she can be locked away, she should not be running loose.
Please keep us posted, meantime, i will be keeping your family, and FIL in my thoughts & prayers.

His brother is 15, he'll be 16 soon. We can't wait until he's out of this situation. If she goes to jail, then there will be no problem at all with his dad receiving custody (at least I'd hope not).

My FIL received 2 more blood transfusions today for a total of 19 blood transfusion and 12 platelet transfusions just in the past few days. It seems his body is producing NO blood at all...they say they can't just keep giving him transfusions forever...

It's also very dangerous to keep getting blood. We were worried about my mother getting so many. I sure hope they can get if figured out and get him on his way to recovery. He must be so frightened.

OMG Angie.. This is awful. I watch a lot of crime tv where I have seen the wife slowing poison the husband by putting into food. He is in my prayers, and I would worry about the younger son, she does not sound like a stable mother. The authories should be involved. I know its like walking on eggshells as far as his brother is concerned. They don't want to scare her and hurt the kid. Angie you do have a full plate between mom being sick and now this.. I hope your FIL recouperates real quickly.

Sending hugs and kisses your way .

Angie, my prayers are with you all.
Sadly there are some very evil sick people in the world and they truly do things the rest of us can't even imagine!

I hope things turn around there soon and they're able to put that nut case away for life. I really wonder why the police haven't been involved though... I would certainly call them and ask what you can/should do in a situation like this.

We have wondered the same thing about the police being involved! You'd think it would be mandatory even if there is just a "suspicion." Maybe she had chemicals at home they could've found or something if they would just do an investigation. The doctor's couldn't say definitively that it was poison because he'd lost so much blood when he was admitted...so it's never gone past the "suspicion" stage.

Brendon wants to call the police, but what would we say? The people at the hospital have given us so little information as to why they even had that suspicion that I wouldn't know what to say to the police. We also want to leave that decision to Brendon's dad. He has so little control over his life (because of his wife) and we don't want to make him feel even less in control... Does that make sense at all?

I just don't know what to do!

The hospital might be sending him home tomorrow, even though the problem with his blood isn't fixed and he's still needing transfusions several times a day...just because he doesn't have insurance! I am just so frustrated with this whole situation!!!! Brendon is so worried that he's starting to feel physically ill. I feel so helpless...

Angie, I just got on and read your post!! How terrible!!!! I know that you've mentioned that your step-mother-in-law is not a good person but who would have ever thought that she would try and poison her husband! He's been given a lot of blood but at least, he's in good hands at the hospital. I'll be keeping him in my prayers and the rest of you too. Please keep us posted on how he's doing.

Angie, maybe your FIL is frightened. Has Brendon or the Dr.'s said anything to him about the suspicion of poison? Maybe he'll want to have the police involved, can't you ask him? I would tell the police everything you know, including all the other things she's done including the stomping of his foot. Now is the time to start writing all the things down with dates if possible. The information may come in handy.

If he goes home, just keep checking on him. If he continues to lose blood, she may not call for help and he may be too weak to help himself.

This has me so worried, I can't imagine what it's doing to your family.
