The real election is in November once we've narrowed it down to one candidate from each party, and they have selected their vice presidential running mate.

We really don't have any good choices left. I was for Ron Paul, but knew he could not make it. Next choice was Edwards, and he's bit the dust.

Now I'm for Obama. McCain is pro-war in Iraq, and Hillary....well I have several reasons not to want Hillary in the office.

I've heard it speculated that McCain will pick Condolesa Rice for his VP either way, to try to pull the black and female votes.

I'm afraid we are in for trouble either way you go. No one decent wants to run for president. Who would really want to subject themselves to all the media scruttiny and to have to deal with all the frustrations of running this huge mess? There are no simple answers.

That's a very good idea Tink!

I heard this morning that if Hillary doesn't win the California primary, she may not win
That's how close they are now!

Your way is so much better. We're really subjected to months of commercials, media hype, every bit of dirt that can be found about every candidate, debates, candidates bashing each other, etc. People argue about "their" candidates and issues, and so on. By the time the election finally comes, most of us already hate all of them, including the new President!

Well said! I get so tired of all the commercials and bashing by the end. The TN senate election was the worst EVER this past time and I was so glad to see it over with, even though the candidate I supported didn't win.

And why can't the candidates win on their own merit rather than the flaws of the others? I hate when it comes down to who has the fewest faults rather than who has the better ideas and plans...

Ladies, you should move to Texas if you hate the commercials. They all just figure we're all voting Republican, so why bother. Part of the Rio Grande Valley votes Democrat, as does Houston and Austin, the remainder of the state is pretty much all Republican. Besides, our primary isn't until March 4th, when most of the country has already picked their delegates. Candidates don't spend much money for advertising in our state.

We have to go to national news to find out what's going on.

An election joke!

One day a florist goes to a barber for a haircut. After the cut he
asked about his bill and the barber replies, 'I cannot accept money
from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased
and left the shop.

When the barber goes to open his shop the next morning there is a
'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his
bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm
doing community service this week' The cop is happy and leaves the
shop.

The next morning when the barber goes to open up there is a 'thank
you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Later that day, a college professor comes in for a haircut, and when
he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept
money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The
professor is very happy and leaves the shop.

The next morning when the barber opens his shop, there is a 'thank
you' card and a dozen different books, such as 'How to Improve Your
Business' and 'Becoming More Successful.

'Then, a Congressman comes in for a haircut, and when he goes to pay
his bill the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you.
I'm doing community service this week.' The Congressman is very happy
and leaves the shop.

The next morning when the barber goes to open up, there are a dozen
Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between
the citizens of our country and the members of our Congress.

Vote carefully this year.

Judy, that was too funny and as Diana said, probably true.

BTW, they are saying that Texas may be as swing state this year. So we may see some political commercials after all.

Only problem is..... I hate to say this but hispanics as a rule probably won't vote for a black candidate. Please don't hit me for saying that. I'm not at all prejudiced. I've had several hispanics tell me that themselves. They believe that most would rather vote for a woman for president than for a black person, and the majority of them will vote democrat. So if Obama has a chance here, he's got to draw the independents and liberal republicans. Where we live, whites are in the minority, so I have several close hispanic friends. Some close enough to be considered family.

I really wish all the primaries were the same day in the entire nation. The early primaries affect the voting in the other states way too much!!

Janet, Indiana should be a swing state, too. Isn't your primary in March, also??

It's an amazingly close race for the Dems... The republicans though don't seem to have much of a contest going on at this point.

I'm not sure if we'll be a swing state, but our primary is in May.

May This just emphasizes my point. Most of the country will have already had their primaries and a lot of folks will make up their mind based on what the rest of the country did rather than all of us deciding on our own and voting at once. We won't even have a chance to vote on the candidates who already dropped out!!!

This needs to change!!!

That's what they're saying on the NYC news too Marilyn. They expect the Hispanics to vote for Hillary, and Obama to get the balance of the Democratic votes.

I agree, the primaries should be on the same day. Then we know who is running and that's that. They are going to have about 5 unexpected swing states. I wonder what changed? These were Republican states until now.
