My thoughts

strongly yearning, heart burning
for something to change
in a troubled world
where voices remain unheard
nothing more than soft whispers
in a whirlwind of fear
and shame and doubt.
struggling to be noticed
among the others
speaking truth
wanting peace
hoping for change
but controlling nothing
---too many voices,
and mine,
Mine is lost in the crowd

Angie, what a sweet poem. I think that is how so many of us feel, as though our voices are lost in the crowd. Thank goodness that God can hear us no matter who else is talking!!! Thanks for sharing!!

I'm glad you guys liked it! I had a hard time deciding whether or not I should post it, but now I'm happy that I did.

Janet, I wrote it yesterday mostly during class. I just couldn't concentrate because all those thoughts were going through my head, so I started writing. (I know, I'm a bad student, lol!) I had to stop half way through because we ended up doing an in class activity so I finished it last night before bed.

But how much influence do I have, does any ONE person have? No matter how much I care, or how passionate I am, the world is still a sad place...

Angie, your poem is well written but SO sad.

Life is full of crap and tears and frustration... but as low as it gets, there are also times of pure joy and awe. It's up to each of us which we choose to focus on. Everyone has some power... with their friends, family, and associates. Just mention running away to a remote spot and see how many beg you to stay! You may be only one, but you're a wonderful loving one. And that love grows and spreads to all who come in contact with you. It's people like you who make us ALL want to be better and do better! The world IS a better place simply because you're in it.

Aww, Tink, that is such an encouraging post. You brought tears to my eyes. Thank you (and everyone who commented) for such sweet thoughts and encouragement. I do hope that something I do will make a difference... I want to be the voice for compassion. I hope others can see it in me and that it will impact them so that they will pass it along. I see so many without compassion and it breaks my heart.

I also see the joy. Thanks for reminding me to constantly be looking for it. (I'll keep the song "What a wonderful world" in mind!)
