Tornados and Funnel Clouds Last Night
It sure was an exciting night weather wise. Our county was under a tornado warning most of the evening. I saw a funnel cloud out our front window (facing west) and yelled for hubby to come see it. I ran to get my camera and by the time I got back out to take a picture it went back up.
Then our scanner said there was one on the ground just two miles west of us and heading our direction. Well...I still had my camera around my neck and I head to the front porch to wait on it. Never came though and it's probably a good thing. Just north of us about 5 miles there were two reported on TV and our scanner on the ground at the same time . This morning all is quiet, but it's very humid. Water standing everwhere, including places I've not seen water before.

Oh, Janet, I'm so glad that everything's alright. It makes me feel bad for saying "That a tornado wouldn't chase you down the road". I'm very sorry! We did drive in some awful rain and the sky was so dark but it was mostly south of where we were driving. Cars were stopped a long the side of the road, but not Dae Lynn!!! She was determined that we were going to keep going!!!

Being from an area of the country that doesn't see tornados, I think if we ever had a tornado warning, I'd hide in the basement for a week! It amazes me how brave you guys are about them!

Isn't that strange of me? I'm not afraid of bad storms..in fact I get an adrenalin rush and want to take pictures, but I'm afraid to drive on big highways. I must be out of my mind.

Janet, you silly woman, you sound just like me about storms!
I find them so fascinating to watch... always have. My first tornado experience happened when I was 5 or 6 yrs old and we were visiting my grandparents farm in Illinios. There was a log cabin post office across the road from the farm and I was standing in a window watching it fly apart like lincoln logs when my grandpa grabbed me from behind and carried me off to the basement. I was disappointed and saw no reason why I shouldn't stand right there and watch. Now livingin a moblie home Greg gets all worried and will sometimes call me to tall me of storms heading my way. I always ask him "And where would you have me go?" I'm not scared to stay here... I figure when my time comes I'll die whether it's from a tornado or in my own bed... so why waste time worrying about it?

We really are a lot alike Tink. When my husband and I were first married, there was a mobile home on this property. We lived in it two years before moving it to the side of the yard and building our home. Anyway, I remember one winter we had a terrible blizzard. I got up in the middle of the night to to to the restroom and was walking in snow....LOL The snow that had fallen was so fine and the wind just blew it in and down our hallway.
Another time during the spring/summer we were having bad storms and I stood in the kitchen area and watched the walls move in and out. Talk about feeling like I should have already left, but oh well. It was pretty awesome but scary at the same time.

Maybe I'm not so terrible after all??? I have to admit that I look forward to hurricanes. I would never want anyone to die, and I was really upset when we had to batton down the hatches and evacuate a couple of years ago. I was so afraid of losing our stuff, but actually like the excitement of a storm.
If the storms could stay small, just large enough to cause excitement and have us close our office so we get some time off, and not large enough to cause real damage or loss of life. I sure don't look forward to evacuating again. I was so upset and worried that if a Cat 4 or 5 came through that we would loose our pictures and things. I packed them up in water resistant containers, but could not take everything with us. Next time I've said I will reserve a small U-Haul trailer when the storm is in the gulf just in case. Last time all the trailers were rented, so we took our cars and as much as we could and us and dogs headed west.

We have our first Hurricane already - a day before the season starts. It went in over the Yucatan.
I keep a Storm List in my purse - organize the kids on who's going where, pickup outside loose objects, fill bathtubs with water, put pictures/papers in back of Tahoe, etc. If you look at the evacuation map for Texas, we're barely outside it on the East side of Houston. I hurricane shop all year, rotating stuff out to the kids just before it expires. We lived in Alvin when Alicia came through in 1983. We evacuated to LA when Rita came through in 2005 and ended up right in the middle of the storm when it turned that way and came home a week later to find that we had no electricity and lost 3 freezers full of food (mostly elk, venison, and pork). But, it will still be a struggle to decide if we stay or evacuate the next one. I DON'T LIKE HURRICANES!
