pretty quiet in here......

What did everyone do today?

I was at work, it was pretty quiet so I got lots of things done that needed my attention.

I came home and fixed a new recipe (WW chili-lime stew) and it was not very good. I ate some, but had made enough for a couple of lunches - threw it out, didn't care for the taste. Thankfully, I have some left over pinto beans from last night to get me through tomorrow's lunch.

I've been trying to eat better and not eat very much prepared food, opting to cook things myself. I've been feeling better and not so tired, so maybe the lack of preservatives and fresher food is actually helping. I don't really like cooking when I get home from work, but since I have felt better, it is OK.

I'm going to try a different recipe tomorrow night, hope it is better!!!

Stayed home with the grandchildren, as we had a lot of snow my husband took my car to work it has four wheel drive so I could not go any where.
Still snow here but today will take them out for a walk they need to expell there energy.
School's have been shut for the last three day's we come to a halt in the UK when there is the slightest bad weather.

Did the usual bus route and then at home did laundry. We rec'd another 4 inches of snow so the afternoon bus drive was a little tricky. I don't mind it though....kind of a challenge and it makes it kind of fun. The wind picked up overnight so we have another 2-hour delay. I started to type that I will be glad when spring gets here and I will because of the temps, but the gravel roads will be a real mess. They will thaw and the bus just sinks. I guess all the seasons have their drawbacks at times, but I'd still rather it be warm.

Gayle, that is part of the reason why I don't like cooking, besides the mess. If I try a new recipe and I don't like it.....I feel like I've thrown money out the window. I am really hoping to get our garden going again this year. It's been a few years since we planted one....but now I think we have a bit more time to take care of one.

Sounds kinda scarey to me!!!! A big yellow bus on a snowy road full of rowdy children. Possibly slip, sliding around......You're tougher than me!!!

I've been cleaning the house and getting it ready for company. My uncle's father passed away on Saturday and his family is here for the funeral. I have a cousin and his wife that stayed with s last night and I think possibly we may have more tonight but I'm not sure. My cousin and his wife are planning on staying until Saturday. I also had a couple of aunts and uncles from my side of the family that are here for the funeral to support the uncle who lost his dad.

Last night we went out to a little restaurant here in town to eat supper and all my aunts, uncles, cousins, Mom and Step-Dad, and us were all there and we pretty much filled up on half of the restaurant. I love it when I'm with my family because we always have such a good time.

Diana, I envy you having a big family. We use to have wonderful get togethers on both sides of the family, but sadly... most have passed away now and those that are still living...are living with some distance between each other...hard to get back home.

We are going to put in a garden too this year. Janet, I know you and Diana, and probably lots of you have lots of space. I don't and I don't want to have to manage a big garden (been there, done that, it's a lot of work). So, I'm including a link to "Square Foot Gardening" a new approach to gardening that is easier and can be done with very little space. When you open the link the picture you see looks like flowers, but it can be done with vegetables and is being highly promoted by our organic gardening stores here in Austin. http://www.squarefootgardening.com/

My garden space will be about 5 foot deep (front to back) and 12 foot long. That really is a lot of space, but using the square foot gardening technique, it is supposed to be much easier than traditional gardening. We'll see!

We need to put in a new gate to the back yard, get the landscape timbers (it will be a raised bed) and the garden soil. Hopefully, we can get that done in the next 2-3 weeks as it will be planting time soon in central Texas.

Gayle, This is very interesting. May just have to give this a try. I can put it where some of the grass died last year. Keep us posted on your progress!!

When we lived in our old house we were in the river bottom and had a wonderful garden right off of the back door but since we've moved we're on a hill and the soil isn't very good at all. We've had a garden at the bottom of the driveway where there's a small meadow but it's just too far from the house to be very convenient. Plus Glen makes it so big that you can never get all the work done or use all of the vegetables.

Last year I tried to talk my husband into making me a small raised garden and he didn't do it but the other day he set out a frame and it just needs filled with dirt. It won't be very big at all but we'll have some fresh vegetables this summer. I saved the website so I can check it out later. Thanks Gayle. You'll have to take some pictures so we can see it!

We need to repair the garden fence where the tree took half of it out. I want a huge garden, so I can do some canning.

You might remember that I went to the farmers' market last year, bought several things and did some freezer canning. We lost all that in the hurricane when we didn't have electricity and the veggies just turned to mush when they thawed. Makes me sick in several ways!

It's almost hurricane season again!

Sad to hear you lost all that work!! Please don't rush hurricane season though. We sure don't need that right now on top of everything else!!
