puppy cuts
Hi Girls!
I asked this on YT and as usual my post got LOOKED at but not responded to...,I think I'm getting tired of YT. Too many newbies that ask the same questions all the time and seems to be getting "clicky".... Anyway..........It's time for me to cut Lillie's hair She has a beautiful long silver coat but it matts terribly...I have to brush it twice a day to keep the matts out, and even then she still gets them. I LOVE her look but, her nails get caught in it when she runs, poop gets stuck in it (even though I keep the bum area really short), she matts from ANYTHING I put on her...including her harness and when she is out side playing EVERYTHING gets stuck in her hair....I want to cut her myself ! I don't trust alot of the groomers and Lillie is very sensitive...I would like to know if any of you here have ever groomed your babies yourself and what size clipper guide you used. I don't want to cut her really really short...I was thinking maybe a size 1 inch clipper guide? Please give me your suggestions... Thanks girls! Hope it's ok to ask Yorkie stuff on WT Brenda

I just cut Joey in a puppy cut because of him wearing a belling band...but I don't think I'll do it again. I love the long coat so much better. I wish it would hurry and grow out. All the girls are in long coat.

I shave Reuger into a puppy cut. I can't tell you what blade that I use but I try not to cut it too awful short unless it's pretty warm. If the blade that you're referring to cuts at 1" then I think that would be a good blade to use. I really like having Reuger cut in a puppy cut. He stays a lot cleaner, especially where we have stick-tights and burrs. I do let it grow out in the winter time because of the added warmth. Good luck!!!

I have Layla in a puppy cut too, but I get it done by her groomer. She won't sit still for me! Layla had the same beautiful silver coat, but it matted terribly! And we don't have A/C so a couple of years ago it was super hot in the summer and I felt so terrible for her so I got it cut. It's so much easier to take care of now! She's much softer to cuddle with and I don't have to bathe and brush her so often! I did keep the hair on her head a little longer so I can put topknots in (I didn't want all my bows to go to waste )
Here she is after showing off her haircut last summer, and another of her with bedhead... she's sleeping beside me right now and I woke her up to take a picture

My Logan is in a constant puppy cut, but I get it done at the groomer. I was very worried about taking him to a groomer so I stayed the first time. The groomer had no problem with me staying her & I went to highschool together & spent the time catching up. Logan gets so excited when we tell him it's time to go see her. So I'm really no help, but I use 1" on my husband & it's a nice length.

Thanks Girls! I got a better response on WT then I did on YT!! LOL...matter of fact NOBODY responded on YT! Diana....do you have pics of your furbabies hair do? And Lindsey!! Layla looks ADORABLE! That is the length that I want Lillies at...I am going to attempt this some time today. I had both Lillie and Sadie spayed about 5 weeks ago and they both need baths really bad. Sadie doesn't have the same type of coat that Lillie has...I could go with never brushing Sadie and she would never matt....of course her coat isn't as pretty as Lillies either ((shhhhh....don't tell Sadie I said that!). I will post pics here when I have her done...and you can all be my critics...and I want you ALL to be honest!
Thanks Ladies!

My girls have long hair, except I cut it short by their eyes and their bellies get trimmed when they're pregnant. I give Yankee a shorter cut, probably 1", but just use scissors.

I just had Eli cut a few weeks ago and i love it.
the 1st pic is Eli the 2nd pic's is the pic i took to the groomer and showed her how i wanted it cut. it's still long enough on the sides but not to long that it matts from the belly band and i didn't have any of his top knot cut. like i said i really like this cut on him.

I can't wait to see how you did. I really love Layla's cut Lindsey...she looks so soft and cuddly. Eli looks good too. Maybe I should have used a shaver instead of scissors or taken him to a real groomer. I can groom the long coats pretty good, but the shorter coats are hard for me.

No, I don't have any good pictures of Reuger with his haircut. He just doesn't cooperate when it comes to pictures. He looks a lot like the picture Lynn B put on of her dog except I trim the hair on his legs shorter and I trim the hair on the top of his head about the same length as I do the rest of him. He looks pretty butchered by the time I get done with him but it's a cut that lasts a long time. He ends up looking a lot like Alaska Yorkie's Eddie, except Reuger's smaller.

We always keep Rex and Rowdy in puppy cuts. Like Diana, our guys are always outdoors or we are traveling to the brambles and bushes with them in our travel trailer. Here's what they look like. The one of Rowdy in the harness is in our travel trailer and he has a SUPER short cut, since it is summer and hot and we are in the travel trailer.

I do shave some of my dogs all the way down in the summer, the ones that have no hope of having a decent coat, just makes less work for me. I do let it grow out during the winter to keep them alittle warmer but that 1st sign of spring it comes off.
Janet you have always done a wonderful job of trimming mine & your dogs. I just wish i could get mine to grow a top knot like your's do.
