It's Official, Thanksgiving is on us!

Well I found out for sure that I will be fixing the meal again this year for Thanksgiving. I really am excited about it. Even though our house is not huge, it's the biggest of everyone else's on hubby's side of the family.

We all had such a wonderful, peaceful time last year that I am happy to have it here again. I like having to make up the menu. I'll have most of what we had last year, but I want to throw in a few surprises if I can think of any...LOL I'm just excited and wanted to let eveyone know...

I usually have Thanksgiving here at our house too. I know that I always have to get ready way ahead to get my house in shape for it. I like for it to be clean even if it's just my kids and their families and my Mom and step-dad. I have a fair sized home with a full unfinished basement where the kids can run and play without getting into too much trouble. It works out really good. Thanksgiving is the easy holiday....Christmas is the one that really stresses me out!!!

Weren't you the one who posted on YT about making crockpot dressing? If so, can you share the recipe? I make just "plain jane" cornbread dressing the "old fashioned" way (in the oven) - this might be a nice twist! Thanksgiving will be at my house, just as it has for the past 9 years. I really enjoy having everyone over and the cooking isn't so bad - it's the clean-up afterwards I hate!!! My older sister (who comes in from Pensacola) helps me clean the kitchen while my younger sister either sits on the couch or leaves to go over to some friends house - it's like she can't eat and get out fast enough!!! That's a looong story, won't get into it here.

My husband was just talking about this last night and can't wait for Thanksgiving just for this dressing. He wasn't a big dressing fancier, but is now. This is so good!! I had it posted in the recipe forum, but........... Your wish is my command: With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I wanted to share the best dressing recipe I've ever had. My husband loved it so much he likes it as a meal anytime: One tip is don't lift the lid once you start the crock pot, (not sure why). CROCK POT DRESSING 1 cup butter or oleo 1 cup chopped onions 2- 8 oz. cans mushrooms (drained) 1 20 oz. loaf of bread (cubed) 2 eggs well beaten 1 cup chopped celery (optional) 1 can cream of mushroom soup 2 1/2 cups chicken broth 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 tsp. sage 1/2 cup parsley 5 to 8 cups chicken (cubed) Thin mushroom soup with broth. Heat mushroom soup, broth and butter until butter is melted. Mix all ingredients together and let stand for ten minutes. Put in crock pot and cook on high for 45 minutes, then on low for 3 to 4 hours. * Instead of 1 cup of butter I use 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup more broth.

Great News!!!!! I always loved having Thanksgiving at my house. Meant that I didn't have to go anywhere. I could just stay home. And you know I love to cook.

But not no more. I have to drive 2 1/2 hours now. Bummer. So I don't look forward to it anymore. But just being with family should be all that matters. I need to count my blessings.

That dressing does sound so good. I don't think I am going to wait until Thanksgiving to make it either, YUMMY!! (Id probably have to cut the recipe in half)

It will be just my hubby and I so it's just too much food if I cook the spread. At this time I have no idea what I will be cooking??

It's not so bad if you all lived int he same town, but driving 2.5 hours would bum anyone out. How come you're not having it at your place this year? Where is it being held? Before Dick passed and Vivian went to live in the nursing home, we were going to pass it around, but Judy said NO. She wasn't having it. Wish we didn't have to invite her anywhere. She just brings her lousy green bean casserole (and hers is lousy!) and a vegetable tray. I wouldn't go to her place anyway! No I have it for Rick's side of the family. I can stay home and enjoy! Wish you were looking forward to it too!

I like it as a leftover too, so there is no way I would cut it in half even with just the two of us....it's that good...in our opinion.
