Lonesome and Bored
My summer friends are now all gone. The last of them left on Tuesday. I went to the pool Wednesday, but it just wasn't fun. I remember that I didn't want the summer people to come up. I thought they would ruin my perfect, peaceful environment. Instead, I really enjoyed making new friends with some wonderful people. Of course, they will be back, and I am looking forward to seeing them again.
I also had an instant life in the summer. All I had to do was to throw on a bathing suit and go over to the pool where we would hang out, go back and forth into the water to cool off, enjoy the kids, who all played together, and come home and relax. Now, I have to begin my social life again, involving driving around, mingling, and meeting new people, etc. I have found 2 meditation groups and a yoga group I want to find out about. I have my Catskill Womens Group, and my writer's workshops, which I love. It can get lonely though, because very few people live in my condo community in the winter. I stayed home and watched TV all of Friday and yesterday. Now, I am over doing that and am going out for a bit. It is a beautiful day and I have to force myself to go mingle. It was so effortless in the summer. I think that's what is really getting me down.

Your life is so interesting Judy - I can imagine having a completely different life in summer and winter and how different and fun it would be. I bet after a few seasons, that winter will be almost as effortless as summer. Yes, the pool is closer than the "mingling" places, but after you are established, so to speak, it may be just as easy. I just think it is so neat to have two completely different "seasons" of friendships. Me, I just have the same ole, same ole all year long! LOL!!!!

I would think that now there's not as many people to socialize with that you could concentrate more on your pottery, writing, and yoga, the things that are more for you. However, if I know you you'll find some friends soon and will be having a great time!!! It sounds like an interesting life!!!

Judy, your life does sound interesting, and you have your family near. I'm sure there will be school events to attend. It's difficult to be content where we are, wherever that is. I'm wanting more time to myself to do the things I want to do, and others want other things. We all need to be careful what we wish for and try to find contentment where we are. I'm saying this as much to myself as to anyone who may choose to read this.

Judy I agree with the other ladies.. You need to find a good friend or two to have all year round.. I am sure by joining the clubs that you have you will meet.. A great man is not a bad idea, sometimes hard to come by. lol Whatever you do I am sure you will make new friends and have a wonderful winter being involved with all your clubs.

Judy, I wish I were closer.. I would keep you busy!!
I love my alone time, but also make sure I stay active. It's still fun to go antqueing and go to small shops for a day trip alone, or with someone. I love to browse shops... don't have to buy, but sure do love to look. And in doing so, I chat with others doing the same thing. So while I am alone, I am never alone. That sounds a little odd doesn't it?? |

The reality is that I am just loving being alone, and having my own time to do whatever I want. You are all right. I do have an interesting life, and I love both parts of it.
I found a pottery group, which I am considering joining. It is so reasonably priced too! No firing fees either (using the kiln). Those fees can cost a fortune! I once made a vase that cost me $90 to fire. It was really big. I didn't like the way it came out either! I did give it as a gift to someone I love, so at least it didn't go to waste. I also am on my way to finding a group to meditate with. I also found a Shakespeare worksdhop, led by a Professor who teaches Shakespeare. I am going to try it out. I love the Bard, but it is too hard to figure out what he is saying. I'm also way too lazy to do it on my own. The only problem all of these activities present is that I have to follow some sort of schedule. I love having no structure. It really suits me.

I can sooo relate! I love being on my own too - I don't have that anymore now that Gary is sick - but he used to work evenings while I worked days and he was gone a lot hunting and fishing. I so loved my time alone. Of course, I didn't have as much unstructured time as you do, but I loved my alone time.
Now, he is here 24/7 and I am so grateful that he is still alive and with me - but if he weren't here, and I've said this many many times, I will never be married again. I have absolutely adored being married to him and I can't imagine married life being any better - sooooo why try it out again My point is that I love being alone, doing what I want, when I want, with whom I want. Maybe it is genetic. My mom was/is widowed for 37 years! She never considered marrying again. I know I will be the same. Anyway, I am rambling and what I meant to ask is what/who is "Bard" and why is it hard to figure out what he is saying????? Also, did you get a new computer or get yours fixed? Or are you still using the slooooow one?

I think it is genetic, Gayle. My father's family and I are so similar in temperament! We all prefer our alone time, and our freedom. It is really interesting that we are so similar. We tend to marry people who "take over," and then they annoy us! But, none of us want to be in charge of somebody else. It is so much easier to let someone else choose the little things, just as long as they understand that they have to give us our space. We also marry people who adore us, so that we can have things our way when it is really important.
The Bard is Shakespeare. That's why he is so hard to understand! I love Shakespeare, but I can't figure it out on my own. I'm just not motivated. I taught Macbeth once, and had to learn how to read it. I got a movie, and a reader's guide. I loved it!!! What a great writer. It's fun to teach too, because underneath the language are great stories. I also taught Chaucer once, with a lot of help from my friend Nigel, who understood old English. What fun! The underlying story is hilarious, and it ends with someone farting in someone's face, underneath all of that flowery language. This is now being typed on my good computer, which did come back last week. Thank goodness
