Got Plans?

BIL, SIL, nephew + wife & 2 kiddos (3y & 1y) are driving to MIL's today, from Panama City, FL. We'll drive over on Sunday, for the day. We've never met the kiddos, haven't seen nephew in over 3 years, and NIL in 8 years.

Sunday is Delaney's 11th birthday. She's having a slumber party (9 girls) at our house tomorrow night. I made her a "birthday tree" last weekend and she's crazy about it. I have two of the little fake pine trees (4' and 5') that I keep out year-round and change the decorations for different holidays, but most of the time have ornament pictures of the g-kids on them. We decorated it up and are pinning money and gifts on her tree. There are already a few wrapped gifts under the tree.

I haven't talked about the daughter's wedding last month because she disappointed us at the end. I haven't talked to Roxann since the wedding and Harold only talked to her once for a couple minutes. MIL, not knowing about the ongoing dispute, called to invite her to come over on Sunday. Now, the other kids say they're not going if she's going and Harold and I aren't sure how we should treat her.

Long story short, most of her friends got drunk at the wedding and one of the guys grabbed Baylor (5yo), cussing at him for spilling soap bubbles on him, as the newly weds were leaving. Needless to say, Paula & Kenneth, Laura & Jonathan, and Gary (Kenneth's dad) told the guy to leave and lots of words were said with a little pushing.

Why are we upset with Roxann? She sided with her drunk friends, saying that Paula's kids ruined her wedding and that nobody had the right to tell her friends to leave her wedding. Harold and I grabbed the g-kids and left. Roxann and Paula were pushing each other and doing lots of screaming.

Harold sent Roxann an email, while she was on her honeymoon, telling her that we weren't talking to her until she apologizes to Paula and Kenneth and that she had other apologies to make. She called Harold once to argue that she didn't feel she owes anybody an apology, but he stood his ground.

I'm rambling!

Oh no! What a nightmare to happen during the wedding! That is no way to treat a 5 year old.

I'm sorry Sandy! It sounds like a big mess that you are right in the MIDDLE of. Maybe everybody will just kiss and make up Life is so short. Good luck!

Betsi, I'm actually staying out of this one! They are supposed to be grownups. My days of making them hug and makeup are done. I'm just doing my part to protect the babies.

Sandy, I sure hope that everybody can apoligize to one another and forget about it. When family members have "falling outs", it makes for some very stressful family functions. Hope it all gets worked out.

Taking care of the kids is the most important thing. Now adult KIDS... there's not a whole lot that we can MAKE them do That's why I wish they would just kiss and make up on their own, then you wouldn't have to worry with it!

Sandy that is a shame, but your right the little one should not have been spoken to him that matter he is only a small child. Your daughter should realize this. I hope you all could settle this soon. Good luck

What a sad ending to what should have been a wonderful day. I hope that things get straightened out soon. I hate to hear of conflict in families. It sounds like your daughter has some apologizing to do.

So sad that you all are going through this. Two of the most traumatic events in so many families are weddings and funerals. Such a shame that people can't act right and do right. Hope this child forgets this event, and that it doesnt' have any lingering effects on him.

Sandy...I just now saw this. I'm so sorry things got so out of hand at the wedding. I do love a good beer, but I don't feel alcohol is suitable for a wedding, seems something always happens because people don't know when they've had enough.

I hope things get straightened out soon for your family.
